SSDs - State of the Product?

That is to be used in a laptop?

At that point any use you can get out of it is better than the scrap heap I guess.

How old is the unit and is it worth repairing? Don't mess it up too much and end up with a gas leak.

That's the unit I was looking at. What a ridiculous review. Nobody uses a RAID 5 of 8x120GB SSDs in such a device. :smack:

What does that mean exactly? I've never received any Windows support ever from the Miscrosoft. Are there no security updates or doesn't it boot?

Actually the DSLR sales (including MILC) are dropping significantly for the past couple years. ASP is also decreasing.

That's exactly my point. Sure the image processors (Digic, Expeed, Bionzic, etc.) will improve as they are related to mobile processors and the sensors will improve as the basic technology will be used in iPhones too, but the rest is not looking good.

Yes, it is very rough times ahead. I don't think Nikon or Canon will go under but they will shrink. I suspect the model changes will slow and there will be more of the minor updates like the D810A and 5Ds. I'm rather concerned that lens updates will decrease, though that has not yet come to pass.

    Automating an install?

Of course I'm not in IT, but I'm heavily involved in the vendor selection process and RFQ, URS, FRS, OQ and UAT for any system that is owned by my group. There are something like 20 documents that have to be approved in a type of Documentum, but I'm only on some of them. IT project management...

Tweaked consumer cameras used for astrophotography are nothing new if you remember the 20Da. I think the 60Da may still be around. They are a very small part of a dwindling market compared to the normal versions of the cameras for terrestrial use. I'm not sure what the serious astro people...

This would only be about 6-8 feet away from me. Some drive in my main computer is making clunking/grinding sounds every 15 seconds, which is louder in the new case. I'm not sure if it is the 6TB Hitachi NAS or Seagates, but the former is more likely.

So now it takes longer to find anything in the CP? :( It's not the end of world. My problem in general is that with every new Windows release it seems that some older apps no longer work properly or at all. In some cases the apps are no longer available or replacements are much crappier...

I'm not sure what you means by tests well; the 14-24 is a fine lens especially by f/5.6. It's a PITA to use on Canon, so the 11-24 is not a direct comparison to the Nikkor. I'm set with 16-35/4 and 17TSE lenses for landscapes, though I try to shift-stitch the 24 TSE II as much as possible and...

If the 1D IV works for you, then keep using it. There is no direct replacement. I'm set with the 1DX and 7D II. The 100-400 II should be your next buy as it is really good.

Another question - how many drives to buy. Do you all buy extra drives for future replacement? I was thinking that it would be prudent to get 6 drives first to see if the whole thing works out and then maybe get another three to have an unused spare. My concern is that the exact drive model...

Yes, you are correct as usual. I have gone out of scope and need to be more practical. I might consider the high end MAS or storage server eventually for primary data, but the 1815+ with 1GbE should be sufficient for backups as mentioned above.

Great. Interestingly enough, when I switched from that defective 980X system to the 5930K, I was able to reactivate the Windows 7 with the new board/CPU/RAM. Perhaps it was because the SSDs, optical drives, hard drives, etc. were the same. I was rather surprised though.
