How much does that whole setup with all the lights and battery packs weigh? Is it really all handheld or does something go on your back? You must be a pack mule.

Yes, unless it's a really fast one like the SanDisk Extreme Pro. It might be worth sending this one in, though I probably wouldn't.

Smartphone and plan advice (v. clean slate)

My G4 draws about 1.8A from the LG USB 5V charger, so I suppose 12W input is feasible depending on the induction charger efficiency. Of course in the advert they are comparing speed to a 1A charger. :( The G4 uses very little power when idle and I don't use it much during the day. I really...

USB drives larger capacity than advertised?

I don't really notice USB flash drive capacities, but high end memory card free capacity is consistently lower than the maximum. Usually the 32GB cards are about 29.8, 64GB are about 59.6, and so forth. I assume they have some space reserved for mapped bad cells and reserved areas for future...

Thanks. That's really nasty of LG to not have the Qi built in. I don't particularly like the flip cases with the Qi, but will this Qi back work with any case?

I'm not getting any charge from the Qi thing in the car. Does the phone require a special case or maybe some cases block it?

Yes the LG4 is large, but just fits the pants. Where do you find a 5V charger for the extra battery?

You young whippersnappers have a plethora of newfangled entertainment options. :D Back then we had TV, radio, vinyl records and audio tape. There were no VCRs, video discs, cell phones, personal computers, internet, etc. If you missed a TV show, that was it forever unless the show was...

I'm somewhere in between. TVs are all LVD, but two are the standard 1080u and the one in the bedroom is less than that, being 32'. That one is mainly on a music channel so it doesn't matter. In 2014 and early 2015 I bought a good number of BR discs, but never watch them. I really don't watch...

Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro gripes (v. it's turrible)

The laptop I've had for about 3 years has a very small display around that size, but normally it is connected to a 24" monitor. Very few people want to travel around the world or even from conference room to conference room with a big laptop anymore. The problem seems to be more than about...

Microsoft Moving to Per-Core Licencing for Server 2016

Haven't other vendors done something like that per CPU and core deal for years? It seems that with more cores there may be less OS sold, so they want to minimize losses.

    10TB hard drive

Meh. I tried that SMR and it is for the birds. SSD caching will not be any good except for the small area paralleled by the SSD. If you are copying say 8TB to a 10TB shingled drive, the increase in speed will only make it appear that the first part is going faster. The Apples have had the...

I think of a normal display as a $2-3K Eizo. I'm still trying to decide on a replacement for my aging 24" 1920x1200 CG245W. It's past the 5 year warranty and the right side is flaky for about 20 minutes, but still works. If the pixels are too small it will be nearly impossible to read the...

The display for the H520s computer is dying. What do you recommend at around $200-250 for a 23-24 inch HD (1080) display that is readily available? It's a bit excessive to write to both cards. It is not like RAID 1, because there are not two separate channels in the cameras to write completely in parallel. I did not even know it was an option to record 4 copies of the same image in camera. Are you paranoid about card failure? Do you...
