    Speedfan update

Well, whatever happened, the hard drive is completely toast. The rest of the system seems fine, but a 300GB Seagate SATA HDD is no more (along with my primary computer's OS, Apps, settings, games, etc.) :sob:

    Upgrade compareson

I agree with your reasoning on the RAM speeds, and would further mention that 4600+ CPUs are significant overkill. 3800+ is more than sufficient. Touching back on our upgrade thread earlier this week, planning on upgrading typically is silly. What upgrades have you made to the current systems in...

The P150 ships with an Antec NeoPower 430W. That should be fine for anything shy of an SLI gaming rig, and it is very quiet.

This is the stock suspension of my Volkswagen Golf, so I don't think anything in the suspension is "too hard"...yet ;) Cornering way too hard? Yeah, probably. Stock, this car ships with 185/60-15 economy tires so I've upped the footprint just a bit. Now it's time to figure out what I can to to...

    Speedfan update

Well, this one killed my system to the point where it won't even get to safe mode anymore. I know I'm jumping the gun to blame SpeedFan; but this system gets rebooted daily and has been sable for weeks. I installed speedfan and ran it, the screen never updated and very quickly locked the entire...

Good job Handruin. I've done a brake swap before and it was no fun. On the '97 Neon the front pads shattered and buried the rivets into the disks...oops. Now that I just finished putting 17x8" racing wheels and 225/45-17 Pirellis on my car, the brakes are on the list...right after I do...

The P150 is also a great case. The PS it ships with is nice and the case is well thought out, but it's not a full-tower case. It isn't cramped for my needs, but you may want to put more stuff in yours.

    IT & Not for Profits

Sounds like a network is in dire need. The take one of the decent machines with USB ports and make it a part time/full time server, put all the printers off it and pool them (not to handle load, just in case they break - unplug the offending printer and try again). Hit up the local ISP for a...

I really like the P180. Don't worry about noise, put the fans on "low" and you won't hear them. The door swivels 270-degrees back to the side of the case so you never have to see it again.

Best way to rip MP3s from about 300-400 CDs ?

In other words, I've never encountered an issue, and that's with a really high-end soundcard (ask Merc) and really nice speakers. Digitally perfect? Maybe not, but I've never had any reason to doubt it.

Honestly, the only performance improvement that they will really see would be the iRAMs. It would make the user experience significanly better, and make re-imaging much faster.

...or you could just sub the contract to me; I'll give you an $800/machine quote and you can have your margin ;) I would certainly not be doing onboard video; just include some 7900GTs, 4800+ X2, 2x 320GB Seagate, and an iRAM that's maxxed out.

    Bridging to a wireless NIC?

One of the things I'm trying to do is look into software-based WAPs. Another is to see if bridging is possible. This comes on the heels of another project that had similar problems. My server has 3 GbE NICs in it at the moment. 2 to different internal networks and one to the router. They are currently all bridged and do a great job. I would like to add a wireless NIC with an external antenna to the mix, but bridging isn't an option. Security would be nice, QOS would be...

    Guidelines for PC Upgrades

I agree with Buck, but when a faster system is needed or wanted: 1. If MB (therefore CPU and RAM) and PSU need to be swapped, an upgrade is silly. 2. If OS is to be updated, an upgrade is probably silly. 3. Don't keep the hard drive from an old system, it will cripple your upgrade. 4. Don't...

Best way to rip MP3s from about 300-400 CDs ?

I use Artist-Title for my tracks, additional information is included in the ID3 info. If I was smarter, I would use Artist-Album-Track-Title; that way you can have multiple versions of the same song, and play albums in order automatically.

Best way to rip MP3s from about 300-400 CDs ?

One other thing that helps a lot is to get 4 optical drives (EAC will run multiple instances to multiple drives).
