    Which AM2 motherboard

:p From what I can tell, it caches certain things that benefit from the super-low access time (small files). Another tech (SuperFetch) caches entire apps (where STR is a factor) into any available RAM.

    Which AM2 motherboard

It makes sense that the Extreme IV is 4x faster, as it costs nearly 3x as much...(40MB/sec sustained...holy crap!) Fortunately the Extreme III is only 50% more. I'll look into it. Whenever I have tried to enable ReadyBoost on anything, it says that the media isn't fast enough. I wonder how fast...

    Which AM2 motherboard

For me it's tricky. I've gotten myself down to one PC; from 4 primary machines (gaming, silent office, file/print/VM server, HTPC). Because of this, I need to do a lot of stuff. Here is what I plan on sticking in it: Modified P180 (ducted, multi-chamber airflow) Antec NeoHE 480W (might need...

    3Ware 9650SE-16ML

That is my problem as well. Considering I'm using 750GB drives these days (the smallest I have is 500GB), there is no way I need 16 drives worth of storage! None of my clients even have needs on that scale.

Good to know you are having good experiences Handy, but I think I'll be going for the 590-based board anyway, just so I can have more space between the second PCIe x16 and the PCI slots.

    Which AM2 motherboard

I'm looking for a new AM2 board as well. Gigabyte only; based on Merc (and Tannin?)'s recommendations years ago and a flawless track record since. I currently have a GIGABYTE GA-M51GM-S2G but I need something with more slots. SLI-ing some 7950s sounds like fun, and I need to put a TV-tuner card...

    laptop wireless card vs. usb

If you can get a PCMCIA card small enough that you will leave it in the laptop (so it doesn't "go missing" again), do that. Otherwise, you might as well have the additional usefullness of a USB card. b+g is a definate yes; draft-n is neat, but unsupported most places and IMHO unnecessary for...

    Windows update has gone weird

Yep Tannin, I can confirm what you've found. I do manual updates on my production servers to control when they are reset. The list for one DC in particular included IE7 a week ago. It hasn't been installed yet and last night it was no longer on the list. Very weird.

How much faith do I have in computers?

I think this fits in with a discussion I had yesterday about hard vs. easy choices. An easy choice is one where the preferences aren't balanced, and you clearly prefer one over the other. A hard decision is one where you either prefer the options equally or aren't entirely sure which choice you...

The Spoiler is easy to get rid of, but IIRC, there actually is a reason for the hood scoop, so you can't just put an Impreza hood on without breaking stuff and reducing airflow to the engine :(

What do you think of this roof?

Were I to get a BMW or Merc (on any new car, really) I'd rather not have the markings all over. Were I to get a WRX STi, I would want it to look as much like a stock Impreza as I could. That way I could park it wherever, and the cops wouldn't be hunting me down.

What do you think of this roof?

Mercedes is more complex than BMW, but they have more variants to sell as well. Sedans: C < E < S Coupes: CLK < CLS < CL Convertibles: SLK < SL ....yeah, it is pretty complex. But I like their product lineup better than I like BMW's. (Click on "See all models")

e_dawg, That is another idea I have been playing with, but I think you have it slightly wrong. What do you think of this roof?

But the trick is, there are only so many form factors that need to be represented. A super-mini, compact, mid-size, full-size, 1/4-ton, 1/2-ton, and a full-ton. On top of that is drivetrain, body style and cosmetic differences. If each brand sells one of each form factor and body style, with...

The one machine I have it running on outside of a VM is actually quite nice. Granted it is a Centrino Duo @ 1.6Ghz with a Gig of RAM and a 100GB 5400RPM hard drive, and it's a laptop so my expectations were low, but it scores a 3.1 on the "Windows Experience Index" (limited by the Intel...

What do you think of this roof?

It says in the picture that it is a 2007 Opel Astra. It doesn't look bad considering it is an entry-level hatchback.
