USB NIC through powered USB hub no worky

'Fraid not. I just put all my power-hungry/speed sensitive devices on direct USB extensions from the PC.

Because it is not putting out proper spec power? I had this issue with a number of 2.5" external HDDs.

    New Cases Coming Out?

I'm sure I (or you) could dream up a system that would require it. Neither of us is likely to build such a system, and 99% of the units sold will not go into such systems, but that is besides the point. ;)

    New Cases Coming Out?

I really miss my P180. The acoustic properties of it rocked. Because of my drive requirements, I suppose I am waiting for the P190.

    Read-only SAS cable?

I can't see how such a thing would be possible with serial communications. Which wire is "send"? Which "receive"? Unless the cable had a full-blown computer connected to it, that prevented any writes from going back to the drive...

My income has always been in and around Monterey, CA. While that has been true, I've lived in Santa Cruz, Monterey, Salinas, Eugene, and Palo Alto; commuting as needed. All to be near women I've loved. Does that clarify things?

A lot of the Hauppauge cards come with remote controls. I saw a bluetooth remote at Fry's the other day that said it was specifically for Windows Media Center. I'll pick one up for testing tomorrow. Me? I use a mouse. It's easier in a dark room than trying to figure out where a certain button is.

As far as keyboards go, I also just went wired for the first time. I have the Logitech G15 and am in love; the back lit keys are great, and the LCD has auto-enabled for most of my games.

    nested quotes doesn't work

Sorry for what? It's your fault? This is probably a good default behavior, as it saves threads from being stretched by multiple nested quotes. I'd just like to use it every once in a while.

Thanks Handruin. I'm currently using the MX1000 at the coffee table and a leftover MX500 at my desk. I am not able to perform as direct a comparison as he, but his numbers don't seem to jive with my experience. It could be that I've never installed Vista on a machine with 512MB of RAM; I haven't built a machine with less than 1GB in years. And the CPU seems a bit pokey as well. The advice I...

Last question. Do you foresee wanting to watch TV on other computers in your house? There is a TV tuner box that connects via ethernet if you are interested. Otherwise, there are plenty of PCI-based options. What inputs does your HD TV support? IMHO, DVI would be ideal.

My system continues to have issues posting. Looks like I'm in the market for a 700W+ PSU. With support for a crapload of SATA drives. I really like Antec's modular cabling system as I ordered a bunch of additional SATA cables and added more SATA plugs on them. Suggestions?

Do you (or do you plan to) subscribe to premium channels? Encrypted HD content? If so, you may need to use one of the cable company's set top boxes (STBs) and plug that into the capture card on your machine. IIRC, the cards that can decode encrypted channels were just released to OEMs only a...

The biggest trick is what your input source(s) are. Cable? Dish? OTA? Do you want to route other sources (VCR, DVD, etc) through he same box? Do you want to support HD? Once you get this, then you can figure out which capture card you need. Then you can figure out what CPU/GPU you need to...

I am a capitalist (go figure). I feel the best way to shape people's behavior is to make it in their financial best interest. [naive idealist mode] I think the trick is to find out the true cost of any action and make sure that the person performing that action is responsible for that cost...
