Yup, the packages I'm receiving today are from "BALDWIN PARK, CA, US" and tomorrow's delivery is from "MEMPHIS, TN, US".

    Large Array?

Reinstalling all your apps would be a pain, but the interface is identical to XP. Really, you can't tell by looking at the desktop or using applications.

    Powershell

Yeah, it would. But I'm typically allergic to programming.

Not yet, but it is on the list. If you feel like sharing any resources here, that would be awesome.

Yup, WMI Asset logger nailed it, thanks Mercutio.

    Large Array?

Going to Server 2003 is really painless. You'll want 64-bit anyway to support more memory, and Server 2003 x64 is basically XP with support for larger dicks and more RAM ;)

Determining username from IP in AD enviroment?

Thanks for the tip, Mercutio. It looks really good.

    Large Array?

The OS is the limiting factor. You cannot have an NTFS partiton greater than 2TB in XP. Server 2003 and Vista both support GPT disks, which can get much larger (my main array is ~10TB now, with a single drive letter).

I'll second the Audio .90. We used them at the game center and they very rarely failed under ridiculously hard use.

Determining username from IP in AD enviroment?

Sorry, I wasn't clear. I know the IP address and the machine name, but I have no idea where the box physically is. I want the username so I can locate the machine. All the boxes I've built while here have the office number as the machine name, but some were done by others, and this machine is...

Determining username from IP in AD enviroment?

I have an IP, and from that a machine name. I need to know the username of who is currently logged in. Any advice?

Disappearing partition and partition for speed

Or, just get a fast SSD and stop worrying about seek times ;)

Disappearing partition and partition for speed

Forcing the swap file to be further from the OS than necessary causes more head movement. They way to avoid swap file fragmentation is to make it a fixed size.
  20. ddrueding

Disappearing partition and partition for speed

I do believe that short-stroking a drive can make an appreciable difference, but creating more partitions and forcing more movement of the head? I don't think so.

How do short people see backwards-out car window?

If you can't see out the back window well enough to back up the car, you shouldn't have a license. I'm not saying it is the person's fault for being short, you could blame the car manufacturers if you like, but I don't care. If you can't see out the back window well enough to back up the car...

    USB Drive Formatting

Very weird. I have used a number of 1TB drives (Seagates) without formatting issues. But I have only ever created single full-size partitions. I don't have any with me to test, sorry.

    Photoshop CS4

The thought wasn't "I want to use Photoshop", it was "I want to stitch photos together, do some HDR composites, RAW conversion, and some general touch-up adjustments". The alternative to PS is to use Canon's RAW converter, Photomatix for HDR, PTGui for stitching, Helicon for DOF, and Paint.net...

    Photoshop CS4

Not disagreeing with you. But it is the best product out there that can do what it does. Paint.net doesn't have enough features, and all the other apps that can do one or two of the things PS can take longer to do them.
  29. ddrueding

    Photoshop CS4

Thoughts? The features list looks pretty awesome. I also hear that it is finally 64-bit and can therefore handle more RAM. It also looks like they are making the extended edition more worth it.

    System build review

Thanks for the warning. My main concerns are compatibility with the images that I will be making. I suspect that so long as I stay with the same chipset the image should work even if I have to go to another manufacturer.

    System build review

I read that the case only supports very shallow optical drives. The only ones I could find that matched the dimensions were LiteOn and ASUS. Considering that I know ASUS sucks, that gave me the slim chance to succeed. I picked that motherboard because I want to standardize the chipset for as...

    Onboard video with Dual-head capability?

Well, I did just order one of these for my new work machine. We'll see how it likes dual-monitor action; and how it likes running the 3rd and 4th monitors after an 8800GTS drives the first two.

Completely agree Perhaps I'm too cynical, but I think that they are intended consequences. If you find smart people (or those who have smart advisors) in power who profited, assume they did it on purpose. I don't think this is an accident. Unprecedented amounts of money went into a few...

I was under the impression that the govt would print tons of money to cover the debt, and that this would trigger inflation. If (i) is covered (it is), then (ii) isn't an issue unless (iii) happens. Correct? I suspect that Stanford FCU is a fairly safe place to be. Would you try to part of...
