Voice mail: For many reasons, root of all evil

I was thinking about some kind of repeater. I'm not all that farmiliar with wireless networking, but couldn't you put an antenna in the car, hooked up to a laptop that would then forward the signal to your house where you could somehow wire it into your own AP?

Mystery of the Mostly Missing Molar

I was prescribed Vicodin a few years ago when I went over the handlebars of my bike and sprained my jaw. That was the first time I had ever had prescription pain killers, and the first time I ever use a pain killer that actually worked. That stuff puts you in a crazy daze...

How much does it cost to play? What kind of advertising are you going to do? You should really get a permit to serve booze after 10pm. Could boost business, plus selling alcohol is a great way to make money.

    Noise from 10k Drives

Either way, the new Seagate 10K drives are not very loud. Idle noise is no worse than a few year old 7200 RPM ATA drive, and seeks aren't terrible either. It's not like a Barracuda 7200.7, but they aren't really that loud anymore. If the rest of your computer is completely silent, then a 10K...

    Noise from 10k Drives

I installed a couple of those in RAID 1 when they were fairly new. Kind of sounded like a jet fighter taking off when you turned on the computer.

    Noise from 10k Drives

I have a Cheetah 36ES 18GB, which is a little bit older than the 10k.6 and it is not loud at all. It is not louder than my CPU fan or my PS fan. I wouldn't worry about the noise, these new drives are fairly quiet. Check the SR database on noise if you want to get a comparison.

    An SF milestone.

Geez, what a horrible translation. I wonder if translation software will ever get to the point of being useful? When I was taking German, I used to try to use it, and the only use I could find was translating single words, or extremely simple sentences. Even then the translator would fail at...

They're Western Digital, right? I don't think reliable is the right word for any hard drive made by Western Digital. From what I've heard they can hardly be considered top echelon in that department.

    New car time ... confused

T- Get a Subaru WRX wagon, plenty of power and room for your gear. Probably a pretty steep price tag though. I drove a sedan and it was damn fast.

    New car time ... confused

Please, don't buy a Wrangler. I owned one for a year and the things are utterly unreliable. Plus 12mpg in the city is not very desirable. They are so loud on the highway that a normal conversation with a passenger is not possible. I think the Subaru would probably suit your needs just fine.

    How long do CDRs last?

My DVDs are just movies, but I don't want to lose them. In the next couple of years if storage prices fall enough (and I make enough money), then I would consider keeping all my DVDs live and just keeping then on DVD for backup purposes.

    How long do CDRs last?

How would you propose storing 200 DVDs worth of data on live storage? That would cost a fortune. Especially when it is redundant.
  26. timwhit

    How long do CDRs last?

It was more recent than that. I bet it was within the last 8-9 years. The capacity was pretty low. No more than a few hundred megabytes if I remember correctly, and it was extemely slow as well. I think it used either the serial or parallel port for its connection.

    I started running again

The run differs depending on weather. If the weather sucks then it is run indoors, if it is nice then outdoors. The pull-ups are dead hand and can be either overhand or underhand, your choice. The sit-ups are laying on your back, feet flat on the floor with something or someone holding them...

Ritek G04 all around here. I only use -R. You can get these for about $1/disc from Newegg. This is probably the most popular higher quality media you can find.

    Cheap Scanner

I'm looking to pick up a cheap scanner, which is small in size and not too expensive. I'm looking at the Canon LiDE 30, which is pretty cheap and it's small and it doesn't need a power adapter because it can be powered from USB. The only drawback I can see is that it is supposedly slow. So is...

Ya, I saw the :P. We haven't had that much snow this year, but I drove out to Aspen, Co over Christmas and they get plenty of snow. My car barely made it over Loveland Pass (12,000 ft, 6-8% grade). I was getting no traction and was moving at about 1 mph in first gear at 6000RPM. The road...

    Something Random

hahaha very funny. My car is absolutely horrible in the snow. It isn't about fwd or rwd it is all about what kind of tires the car has. The Z rated tires on my Sentra Spec-V get no traction at all. Next winter I am going to be getting some snow tires to put on it.

Machine names on a private network

128kbps is not very fast. 15KB/s, my cable modem provides 2Mbps, which is about equal to 250KB/s. 128kbps is what dual ISDN is, I had that about 7-8 years ago and it sucks compared with any broadband type service.

Let me make this perfectly clear. You add nothing to the discussion here. When the Ignore function is implemented at the end of the month the only person that it will be used on is YOU. Everyone will ignore you and it will be a great day for mankind.
