    Samsung drives unreliable?

If all four drives were part of one shipment it's very possible that your shipment was mishandled or poorly packed. Where did you purchase the drives? I haven't read any reports of these drives being unreliable. I am currently running 3 of them with no problems. However, a sample of 3 or 4...

    6 years of StorageForum!

It's amazing to me that it's been that long. I was a sophomore in college when the SR crash happened. Which, truly seems like a lifetime ago for me. I definitely think it's the people that make this place. The cohesiveness and amazing knowledge of this group is unsurpassed. This is the first...

DVD Hi-Def format war near end, Blu-ray wins?

I hate format wars. Look what it did to memory card formats. Now, if you want to have means to read any kind of memory card you need to have something like a 9-in-1 reader. I still think I would only buy a dual format player if I was going to blow the money. Something like the LG GGC-H20L...

Do I need a database for movies?

If he is only planning on running this on a local network, does he really need to worry about SQL injection? Not that it's a bad thing to know about, but for this application, I doubt it's necessary. Though, this cartoon is great.

BitMicro preps 832GB SSD 2.5 inch SATA

I really think these announcements are just meant to tease people. I just want a 32GB SSD in SATA format that can do 100 MB/s for around $300. I guess if the market was there or the technology was there someone would be selling it.

    Where's everybody?

I'm in Mexico. So, it's pretty costly to get internet access. $7 for an hour. We are staying at a resort, which is pretty nice, but everything is extremely expensive. The weather is nice though.

I'm intrigued by this. I wonder what it will cost? Is the 5 cents per KW/h based on producing 200KW for 40 years continuously? If so, it will cost $3.5 million.

    FairTax

You are thinking of FICA, which covers Social Security and Medicare. Social Security and Medicare wouldn't go away with FairTax, but it's revenue source would change. The money would come out of the general tax fund, rather than being levied individually. From the Wikipedia article I linked to...

    Movies

I watched Superbad and Knocked Up in the last two weeks and thought they were both somewhat decent, but both had some major problems. Both movies were way too long for comedies. I think a good time to shoot for is 90 minutes for a comedy. There were scenes in both movies that were completely...

    FairTax

Let's say John Doe makes $100k/year. He is currently paying 7.65% of his salary for FICA, his employer is paying the same amount on his behalf. This is equal to $7,650/year each or $15,300 total. Let's say the government eliminates FICA and goes with FairTax or some other tax system. Don't you...

New PC for my brother-best MB/processor combo?

I would agree that 4GB RAM is overkill. The computer I just built for myself only has 2GB and it is perfectly fine. I also use Photoshop and several other apps that are very memory hungry. My work computer has 3GB of RAM, but I also run BEA Weblogic Portal, which uses over 1GB for the server...

Suggest a decent 19" LCD monitor

I finally got my new LCDs. They are quite nice. Extremely bright at their factory setting of 100 for brightness. I bumped them down to 60, but even that might be too high. Tannin (or anyone else), what brightness and contrast do you run on your LG L1953TX-BF?

I was confused, I wasn't replying to that part of his post. BBCode isn't real HTML, you can only do simple things like link to an image or URL and do simple formatting. If you were able to insert some kind of JS or HTML it would be a hack and a vulnerability.
