[NEWS] - Intel invents overclock deterrent method

it's been confirmed by the overclocking crowd that it does work for heat reduction via removal and tests. many people now remove the ihs, apply thermal glue, and place it back on because they're dissatisfied with the default material they use to connect it.

New FAH client version for newer Linux distro!

and i commend you for that. sending mail from a random location using your own mailserver is an uncommon need, that's where my only question was stemming. if it actually matters you can do webmail, ssh forwarding, smtp auth, etc. if the server you're using somewhere else doesn't allow mail...

[NEWS] - Intel invents overclock deterrent method

5 benchmarks are games, and 5 benchmarks are specview 3d. should i claim the p4 is better by testing 680 different encoding apps and listing them? one only needs a large enough sampling on a category to claim superiority, and for my MONEY, the category is all that matters. p4 won more (and...

[NEWS] - Intel invents overclock deterrent method

pull off the integrated heat spreader on a p4 and you'll see a core just as small as the athlon. this a bad omission by amd. and the motherboards weren't required to read the temp off an internal diode instead of a thermistor? i'm not buying that, and nobody implemented the diode reading...

[NEWS] - Intel invents overclock deterrent method

i was using that article because it was the first athlon 333 review, and we were mostly talking about the low end intel is winning in business & content creation, media encoding, archiving, and 3d rendering. amd wins in gaming, workstation 3d, and science. where is the slightly more?

[NEWS] - Intel invents overclock deterrent method

with a lower ambient temp my retail 1900+ at work runs 5-7c hotter than my overclocked northwood 1.8a/400 (running at 2.4/533). both use retail hsfs, and the p4 fan is quieter as well. i had to manually apply thermal grease on all of the 1.4 tbirds we use to keep them from crashing overnight...

(same font/graph/etc they used when they said the k6-2 300 was as fast as a pii-400...) anyway, yes, amd chips use less power than intel. they are also much hotter across the board, and lack the anti-destruction mechanism the p4s have from overheating...

New FAH client version for newer Linux distro!

you can use ssh port forwarding with putty to send mail using your mailserver remotely. just forward tcp port 25 on your server to localhost, and then use localhost as your smtp server. you really send email remotely and NEED your server to send it? the qualification doesn't have anything to...

[NEWS] - Intel invents overclock deterrent method

okay above 2.4 :) i would buy a 2.4/intel chipset board just to assure a 4in1/wcpredit/hassle/etc-free experience, but that's worth $30 to me. i can definitely see how anybody at or below 2.4 would buy amd, but above that it doesn't make sense to me.

[NEWS] - Intel invents overclock deterrent method

333mhz bus vs 533mhz bus, amd loses (but not a wide margin) in the majority of available metrics at the same 'rating' (e.g. 2800+ vs 2.8) xp2500+/333 costs $171us p42.53/533 costs $179us

wow...i see nothing but complaints in the vwvortex forums/newsgroups about pre-2003 a4 jettas, mostly about window regulators and ignition coils. i know the regulator issue is fixed for 2003, but i'm still pretty concerned. is this just a vocal minority? consumer reports has the 2002 golf and...

nissan 350z felt great :) i'm not talking about sports suspension, i'm talking about the rattly 'i am driving a sardine can' feeling. it's not a sporty, pleasant kind of rough, and i suspect that's how they're able to sell such powerful cars so cheaply.

it would appear i may be purchasing a jetta sooner than later :O took my (1996) car to get evalled, has about 2k worth of 'should be dones' including a leaking head gasket... the more i look at the 1.8t the more attractive it gets, though. it hits max torque at 2000rpm, better mileage, more...

is the warmup bit true on vehicles today? i get so much conflicting advice on stick etiquette. i have 110,000 miles on my current car and the clutch shows no signs of stopping. i often pop into neutral to coast on city streets, and i always skip the clutch when i go into neutral - 2 quirks...

yeah most consumer tires aren't rated to go that fast, and if you blow a tire at 100+mph you are most likely going to lose control and do serious damage to all sorts of things
