    PC Customers 101…..Know thine enemy!

Type 8: The technophobe This is the sort of customer who really begrudges the existence of both computers and you, because you sell them. In fact, the only reason they are there is “cos me kids want it and that”. These people are in fact a subspecies of Type 2(ii) people in their temperament...

PC Customers 101…..Know thine enemy! Type 1: The monied customer. You can charge them what you like. They have bought several machines from you before and would never dream of going anywhere else. You could sell them a plate of custard as a PC and they would buy it. Whenever they have a...

Preparing an answer to "What kind of computer should I

I had a great customer in today. This is the woman who kicked up a stink because I was not available to see her two days after my niece drowned. She came in today because "this damn PC has been rubbish from the moment I had it!!!" Although I really wanted to smack her in the mouth I smiled...

    Some people really are unpleasent....

I like this one the best. "I do believe however it is unfair to ask for more than 1 laptop/monitor as i seriously doubt they will provide that many and it reduces peoples chances of gettin one. I think if we each just ask for one (which is very reasonable) and our money back on the others then...

    I need a drink

Sunday, June 30th 2002 was a really poor day. I think that you should make a break, for your own sanity. She is using your good-nature. I am sure it is not a malicious thing, but nonetheless she is still using you. It is not appropriate to do what she is doing and then come back to see you...

I am so glad I found this thread. On Sunday I watched my 2 year old niece being pulled from a pond. We missed her in 20 seconds. For some god-knows-what reason, we could not bring her back. I am now downloading a song from The Grinch to play at her funeral. The agony is more than I can...

    75/60 GXP PRoblems Exposed ???

30 GB GXPs are bad as well. We sold over 100 of the blighters, and we have had a 20% thus far. Always the same, they sound like a cement mixer! Bearing in mind that the odd basic server has one or two of these in, this is a right pain. I do not think that it is board related though. On a...

    XBOX HDDs

You may not expect it to, but that does not mean that it will not! In my experience, no matter how good the drive is you get at least a 5% failure rate in the first two years. Cheap drives are worse. With regards to the rest of what you said, I quite agree. MS is sure to want to update the...

SMART failure on a dumb drive

Replace the drive. The customer will not appreciate that you are trying to save them money by keeping a drive that you are not sure about. They sure as hell will be upset if it does fail, though. It is not worth the risk.

    SR Lives!

I love it here as well. I find SR much less personal than it used to be, and SF is much more cozy. Also, I don't get drawn into pointless discussions about politics with people I can never agree with. In short SF is much nicer place to be and is my first stop.

    The Systems that Sell

Tannin: What you said may well be true, but a lot of customers wanted to play 3D games on their new PCs. AGP performance is a major issue in any circumstance when you sell a PC as a 'do it all' home computer.

    The Systems that Sell

I agree completely. Once upon a time we had to replace a batch of K6-2 450s with Celerons. They all went to different customers, but they all had random crashing problems. Mixtures of video cards O/Ss and apps. Even mobos and chipsets were different; we tried them all. That was the start of...

    2U Server: Mainboard Dilemma

Oh, the 810E2 is the actual chipset that supports 0.13 Micron CPUs. It is limited to PC100 memory speeds, however. If you want PC133, you need an 815G chipset. Exactly the same except PC133 support. Try: http://appzone.intel.com/boards/ for all of your motherboard selection needs!

    2U Server: Mainboard Dilemma

The 810E does 133 FSB and coppermine. It also has crappy integrated video and runs its RAM at 100Mhz. The 815 has an AGP option as well as integrated video. It runs its RAM at 133Mhz with a 133FSB CPU. The 815EP as above without the integrated video bit......OK, enough of this boring stuff...
