    Easy Video Camera System

I have a client that isn't particularly computer savvy, but has a need to shoot video, edit it, and either burn it to a DVD or post it on YouTube. The only editing they'll need to do is trim a clip and/or spice several clips. At the moment, they have a Sony DCR-DVD403 that uses the little DVD...

:p Edit: It is actually pretty fitting. I'm a 100% convert; no system I build gets a spinning platter for the OS/Apps. Only if their needs are 1TB+ does a HDD go in at all.

When I lived 100m from work, I could get away with one decent system. Now I live 30km+ from work, so I need a machine at home. Then I decided that I needed two gaming machines at the house, for when friends come over and we want to do battle. I also have a pair of force-feedback wheels and...

    iPad: any experience?

I'm responsible for the support of over a dozen of them. The user is happy or not along a very clear line: Happy: Surfing, reading, games, music. Mostly from home. Unhappy: Trying to do office/laptop stuff with it, trying to carry it around regularly.

Meh. Just use a pci-e based ssd and you're set.

problem Computer crash when processing large amounts of data

My first instinct is a slightly goofy PSU. I would second an Ubuntu LiveCD; it is super easy, and copying information is also simple. Motherboard would be a maybe, but PSU first.

Windows Home Server / Home Server OS

I'm in the process of dumping my WHS as well. Considering it can't handle my new 3TB drives, it isn't worth the hassle. The one thing I really liked about it was My Movies automated ripping and indexing of movies. I'm going to miss that.

Yup. I haven't tried OC'ing it, but taking it to 24GB didn't help either. Edit: This is "Home1" in my sig, BTW.

    Any old Miniscribes?

I'm afraid I don't go back that far. Just looking around, the prices are up there ($300+). How tricky would it be to modify the system to operate on newer hardware?

    My Sandy Bridge Experience (Q6000 -> i7-2600K)

I'm really amazed at how quiet my Zalman CNPS9900NTs are. And how much noise F@H on GPUs can make them.

You really were able to turn it directly up to 4.5Ghz? Holy crap.

I'll second stereodude, that will be fine for <30 feet. And Monoprice's prices are still unbelievable. I just got the 4x4 HDMI matrix switch and a bunch of cables last night. Today is play time.

    Cable Management

I would only worry about coiling low voltage wires in the same pile as high voltage ones. Those guys make some neat stuff, but boy is it expensive.

7D. I thought it would be a good choice, because that moves the 35mm equivalent to 27-64, and avoids the vignetting issues on the wide end.

Today my 17-40/4 arrived. It isn't an exciting lens (super long, super wide, fast, macro), but it is a good lens in a useful range. I suspect I'll be using it quite a bit.

Yeah, 3+ years. Right. I did turn off the CPU folding and left on just the GPUs, it seems to have helped overall, and the responsiveness issues I was having with the system have gone.

I've been happy with their cables. That should have read "up to 20lbs next day for $5". The one trick with them is that their shipping cutoff is 6AM :( Order Saturday night and you'll get it Tuesday.

The $3k+ X201 arrived. Frigging awesome. Insanely fast, ultra-portable, and feature packed. Only complaint is the touchpad size. I wonder if it is larger if you don't opt for the joy-nipple.
