photo Tips for touching up Photos

Hi Guys, I've uploaded some photos to my personal website ( http://chewy509.110mb.com/pic.html ), and would like to get some feedback on the best ways to touch up some of them, before having them professionally printed. I'm looking at getting them ready for 8x10 print sizes... I know a...

    Quad output video

Yep, very big in medical imaging due to solid 10bit per channel colour support, and in the financial industry due to the solid multi-monitor support. nVidia only introduced 10bit per channel colour with the G80's, and AMD I believe only 2 generations ago as well, and both multi-monitor support...

U.S. is still most obese country in the world

I've read through a couple of the recent reports, and all focus *solely* on BMI, which IMO is crap. (The report naming Australia as the "Fattest" has this flaw). eg, take most people is the military/defence force, and most will be considered obese due to high BMIs, even though a good proportion...

    Borrowing 4TB?

Umm, Linux has supported GPT and Dynamic Disks for a while now? (GPT was added in when the Linux Kernel started to support Itanium based systems, and Dynamic Disks has been in for at least 3-4 years). You may just need to recompile your kernel to support those options. (It's under the...

Producer: CD quality isn't good enough

This is what Trent has done with the last 2 NINs releases, available as DVD-A, CD, MP3, WAV. Works well at no additionally cost, other than spending the time downsampling to the lower resolutions from 32bit/128kHz...

    XP SP3: What's The Word?

Starting to deploy it on our boxes, and no issues so far. (And our boxes run the MS RMS Software that caused SP3 to be revoked, and then re-released)! So far have installed it on 13 boxes without major problems. The only issue we've had is with TrendMicro PC-Cillin 2008 and if the scan engine...

    Speed of a 2.5" 7200 rpm drive

I don't consider AU$50 a waste for noticeable increase in performance, considering there are people who speed AU$500 for in 2% increase in a benchmark score that they'll never notice using real world applications.

Sharing contacts in outlook without exchange?

Wouldn't a CRM system like ACT! be more appropriate than Outlook for handling those customers? (I'm only thinking of ACT! as it's really aimed at the SMB market, instead of something like Microsoft CRM). Last time I used ACT! was about 5yrs ago (when it was still owned by Symantec), but it...

I remember when I first started, I was shocking at it... Now, like a pro, off and on in less time Isaac has to realise I have it off so he can pee everywhere! (It's like taking the nappy off is the queue for him to pee everywhere, but I guess most boys are like that). He's now starting to...

Global Overpopulation: The gorrila in the room?

Sorry, it's something my wife used to say, that "we" were both pregnant even though all I did was have 2secs on fun, and she got the 9 months of morning sickness ... oops, I mean pregnancy ... I did share in most aspects of the pregnancy, including trying all the cravings. (Hint: pickles and...

Sharing contacts in outlook without exchange?

IIRC, you need either Exchange or the latest SharePoint (w/Outlook 2007) for that. Alternatively you can use AD, and publish a contact list there, and have each client use that as an alternate address book. (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=238007) But as you can see, all solutions need a...

This is what my wife was on, when we became pregnant. (We fell pregnant mid-cycle as well). The only contraception that is fool-proof is not doing it all, (expect for permanent sterilisation ). 23. Chewy509

    More Vista nonsense

Case scenario 1: Software updates. Most software use a secondary *.exe to auto-update software, which download the updated exe/dll/data from an internet based server, and then copy said updates files over the top on the files in C:\Program Files\<Application>\*. Even though the user account...

    More Vista nonsense

The other side of the table, is that UAC is simply more than a Prompt, it alters how Windows operates. The number of applications that either fail to install or not work correctly with UAC enabled is quite large (yes even with full local admin rights, apps still break with UAC enabled). Turn...

Xeons can use normal DDR2 as well as FB-DIMMs, it all depends on the chipset on the mainboard. Xeons paired with the 5000, or 5400 series chipsets require FB-DIMMs, however when paired with the 5100 or the 3000/3200 series chipsets normal Reg ECC DDR2 DIMMs are all that's required. eg...

Could it be that MS has finally realised that the public perceives Vista as a not-so-great product and are discounting accordingly... in an effort to boost sales. Speed of a 2.5" 7200 rpm drive

I saw MASSIVE difference going from a 4500rpm PATA drive (cheap HP laptop) to a 7200rpm PATA... While greater than a 5400rpm -> 7200rpm transistion, you should notice the difference. If you don't need the space that the slower HDDs offer, then by all means go for it.

DVD Hi-Def format war near end, Blu-ray wins?

BR is certainly ahead in Australia, last figures I heard was 9:1 in BR's favour in sales of both Players (stand-alone) and media. While there is nothing technically wrong with either format (discounting DRM and the silly region encoding in BR), it's unfortunately the content that will sell...
