Not that one in particular, but IIRC both Finland and Sweden make the fine a percentage of annual income, rather than a fixed amount. (Which makes a lot of sense). So if you're rich, expect a larger fine than someone who is borderline in poverty.

    RAID with mixed disk technology

My thoughts as well. Set the SSD(s) as L2ARC on the zpool, so it acts as a cache in front of the other drives, boosting IOPS for regular data. But you still need at least 2 spindles for raid1 or raidz functionality.

    Windows 7 nonsense

I've used Win7 on a netbook (Atom 1.6 w/1GB RAM), and it was very usable. I only found issues when trying to load too apps at once, would exhaust the free RAM, but otherwise it was just as good as XP on the same hardware.

Hitachi Data Systems to spin of storage division

That's my feeling as well. None of the traditional large HDD makers have moved portions of their operations to SSDs yet, despite having years of experience with drive firmware and compatiability with ATA/SCSI/SAS/SATA controllers. Anyway who's left in the traditional HDD market? Seagate...

It lags behind by about 3 months in feature set, but performance otherwise is very similar. (It lags behind, as some small modifications need to be done to the Oracle released code in order to integrate well with the FreeBSD kernel). Oh, I did forget another feature - L2ARC. If you mean 4K sectors and 2TB+ sizes. Solaris 10 u9 (released last month) supports both on standard ICH9/10 and AMD 800+ chipset controllers in AHCI mode. Just 4K sector support in the BIOS support is needed to get GRUB loaded correctly. Also EFI is NOT required. Linux distro's with kernel...

That is something everyone outside of Oracle is wondering. Oracle's official stance is that Solaris 10 will be supported, and Solaris 11 will be coming out supporting both SPARC and x64. I think it's pretty bad that some fries (or chips depending where you are from) can have up to 9 additional ingredients besides potato, oil and salt. Which IIRC, most Intel X58 and Intel boards with PCH all have (it's a BIOS option to use legacy BIOS or EFI). PS. Geniune Intel boards like the DX58SO, not stuff made by Gigabyte, Asus, etc. (They may include it, but I only know that Intel definitely do have EFI available if needed).

    raid 5 rebuild issue

What motherboard and what raid controller? Most RAID setups store the RAID meta-data on the connected HDDs, so as long as you have the same RAID controller, you should be able to just plug them in and the RAID BIOS will see a degraded RAID5 array and a spare to which to rebuild with. But this...

LM, Have you tried connecting the monitor with a VGA cable, and not a DVI cable? Some manufacturers went cheap with the DVI setups and only included a single TDMS, and not dual TDMS for high-res DVI. (A single TDMS can only handle 1600x1200, hence you need two for any res higher). Some...
