    Companies that have burnt...

I've heard similar with Samsung, it depends on the product division and how dead it is. If the product is dead, Samsung are generally pleasent to deal with, but if you have a minor fault, they don't seem to give a sh*t.

I'm starting this thread as a vent due to the poor customer service I've received over the last few weeks, and to announce that due to extremely poor customer service I will not purchase any of their products in future... 1. Intel Core i3-550 Clarkdale 3.2GHz 4MB L3 Cache LGA 1156 73W Dual-Core

I just did a quick comparison between the i7-2600 and the i7-2600K to see what else is different in addition to the different gfx cores. It's interesting to note the the K part is missing VT-d and Intel TXT support, which are very useful if you use any virtualisation technologies or software...

    Intel Core i3-550 Clarkdale 3.2GHz 4MB L3 Cache LGA 1156 73W Dual-Core

Sorry, I thought it was the other way around? That certainly is a WTF, as it'll be the low end using the internal gfx, not the high end unlocked parts.

    Intel Core i3-550 Clarkdale 3.2GHz 4MB L3 Cache LGA 1156 73W Dual-Core

To place in different gfx cores based on the K suffix, may be result of the unlocking of the chips multipliers to allow overclocking. The older HD2000 may play more nicely with high overclocks than the new HD3000 gfx core. The other thought is, most people buying a K suffix chip will most...

Still living there, and we're doing quite well as we're on top of a large hill. We still have general road access to the Pacific Motorway**, so are not in any danger of being locked in. question RAID1, removing 1 drive, data readable from removed drive?

From what I've personally seen, yes that's the case. But it's certainly not the standard that everyone follows as dd mentions.
  13. Chewy509

question RAID1, removing 1 drive, data readable from removed drive?

    1. Technically yes, but many RAID controllers will write metadata to the drive that describes the array that may confuse other RAID controllers. If using the same drive controller, then you won't have any issues. 2. Yes, it should work. (But may not due to differences in BIOS/firmware).

    Sandy Bridge

    RAM prices finally falling...

Oh, and the i7 uses triple channel RAM configuration with a maximum of 6 DIMM Slots, utilising 4GB DIMMS. 6 slots x 4GB = 24GB. Intel only validates 8GB DIMMS using Reg DIMMS, which AFAIK only Xeons can utilise.
  18. Chewy509

    RAM prices finally falling...

Why would it be a chipset limitation considering the memory controller is on the CPU? As a guess, it would be more due to limits on the i7 IMC and what Intel is validating as the max number of DIMM slots vs DIMM size for the i7 and not the limitation on the chipset (unless there is an issue...

Intel drivers for > 2TB drives

Without seeing a detailed Change log, it could be a fair assumption. Also could be for compatibility issues (aka poor implementation with HDDs) in regards to the new sector size, especially for those drives that don't report either physical or logical sector size correctly. (ATA-8 spec includes...

Intel drivers for > 2TB drives

I have to agree with that. LBA48 addressing which has been around for quite a while now (ATA-6 added LBA48 addressing in 2003, which SATA is a superset of) can address 2^48 sectors, and even with 512byte sectors that's 128 PB (aka 134217728 GB) addressable. So if you say your controller is...

I don't have a recommendation for the second monitor, but have noticed that anything under or around 20" is limited to 1366x768 or 1440x900, to get a higher res (1680x1050) requires a 22"...

Will Dynamic Disks survive a Vista to Win 7 upgrade?

IIRC Linux could read them back in 2002-2003 quite easily. BSD followed about a year later, and Solaris a year after that. For Linux, all that is needed is the correct kernel module to be loaded. (It's called LDM). See: http://lkml.indiana.edu/hypermail/linux/kernel/0204.3/0878.html

Blu-ray players? Most are online now, and offer downloadable content... XBox360 and PS3? Heck some TVs are Internet enabled to allow you to watch YouTube, NetFlix, Amazon Video on Demand, etc... In a nutshell, anything that is directly connected to the 'net is a potential target.

Computer worm. Is this possible, or fiction?

An even better target would be the larger number of commercial routers out there. Most are now running Linux in some form, and most rely on MIPS or ARM CPUs. Win 7 network problem
