With some sadness, I must report that Hellfire has been decommissioned after serving as my primary PC for 6yr 5mths, as I have been given a new HP xw4600 Workstation as a gift. The parts will be offered for sale shortly, so if anyone is interested please PM me. FYI, the HP xw4600 specs are...

    update NVIDIA drivers for UNIX

That's the thing, it won't effect those that use the packages provided by their distrobution, as most distro's have either added the headers back in, or make just the mesa headers a dependency. But for those that run less popular OSs and install the drivers manually, it's something to know...

    update NVIDIA drivers for UNIX

Hi all, This is just a for your information... I found out last night that NVIDIA no longer bundle the OpenGL and VDPAU header files with the 260.x (and 270.x) drivers for UNIX (Linux, Solaris and FreeBSD). It means that you can't build OpenGL based software or software that uses VDPAU! (But...

Had an interesting phone call today from some in the "Windows Operating System Support Service" wanting to do some maintenance on my home PC. Nice to see... but I was unhappy to fill the bike up tonight paying 152.9c per litre. (It was 137.9c/L this morning). Mind you, to fill the tank only cost $8.20. (I get an average of 2.9L/100km on the bike).

I'm not going to name them, as they have been honest the whole time with the problem. The only BS part is the time it'll take to fix the issue. Being a core router that's the problem I can sort of understand the time needed to fix, but 4 mths for a fix is a little too long in my book.

Some network help if you can

Did you happen to install or update Windows Live 2011? There is a known issue with the "Windows Live Sign In Assistant" component that breaks CIFS/SMB sharing with non-windows clients/servers. (The current git version of SAMBA does provide a work-around for it - it related to that component...

    Why is Exchange OMA broken?

SAMBA can mimic a NT4 domain controller nearly 100%, and for Active Directory it's also nearly there. SSDs - State of the Product?

From a HP document I once saw, on a 1GHz Itanium 2, you would roughly see performance akin to a Pentium MMX @ 233MHz. Recently models dropped hardware emulation in favour of software emulation, since the same 1GHz Itanium 2 could emulate quicker in software (closer to a P2@450MHz).

I would have thought any modern system that has a full legacy compatible BIOS should work... (aka no i3/i5/i7 boards with UEFI).
