    Outlook PST Hell

This is a little off-topic, but one of the reasons I dislike Outlook is not having the ability to default having your reply below the original text. Heck even RFC 1855 - Netiquette Guidelines (published in 1995) has: This makes what you are replying to, to be in proper context of the original...

    Welcome to Armageddon

Hi Guys, Sorry for not posting sooner, but the connection latency from this spaceship is a killer. We're just passing Neptune at the moment and will enter hyperspace once we get passed the outer planets. Something about engaging the hyperdrive and a mass gravity well? I'll post again once we...

As I said, I would love to use alternate transport, be it walking, bike or mass public transport. (my waist line would like it as well). However in order to move to an area that has those facilities and be close to Uni (as in my case) would see a significant increase in my rent or a significant...

Our last one use just over $600... (for 3mths usage). But that one is typically high due to use of the air-con. Over the winters months, it's down to around $400 for the 3 mths.

jtr, I would love to take public transport to/from Uni 3-4 days a week. However, these are points that must be considered in my personal case: The nearest train station is 6km from my house. I live semi-rural, so the only local bus service is 6 times a day mainly timetabled for K-12 school...

    Outlook PST Hell

My personal experience with Outlook falls into 2 categories: With Exchange - the most common problem (which is extremely rare) is a corrupt profile on the client PC, and haven't seen that in 5 yrs. The only other problem I've seen is when using the "RPC via HTTP" option in Outlook 2007+ to...

    FF4 and IE9

Since I don't/can't run IE9 I can't give a comparison, but at the moment: FF 4.0.1, with 9 tabs open, I'm seeing 144MB usage. (2 being SF, 8 being Slashdot, and 1 on the Uni Website with a PDF open via the Acrobat plugin). The highest it's been is around 900MB, and that's after watching YouTube...

    OCZ Talos : enterprise-class 3.5" SSD

Granted. But when someone touts "Enterprise" I immediately think 5-10+ drive arrays (at the smaller end) and decent RAID controllers. These might be useful for smaller installations in the SMB sector where there is no RAID controller present (thinking single server situations, with everything...

    OCZ Talos : enterprise-class 3.5" SSD

Interesting, but I wonder how good OCZ "Enterprise" support is, based on passed experience? How much testing will they do with large OEMs to ensure that their drives work without issues on the more popular RAID controllers out there? Or will they simply blame the RAID controller for issues?

    Linux Mint+Virtual Box+MS Mouse

Digging through the X.org 7.6 downloads for input devices, Microsoft Mice (on USB) may be supported using the following protocol options: "Auto" - Let X.org attempt to work it out (the default) "usb" - X.org will just use the default/generic USB HID events. No special device handling...

From my experience with Outlook. The PST is not upgraded as part of the running the new version, you need to create a new PST, and import your old one into it. Smoothwall on a VM

If using Windows as the Host OS, and have it usable as a workstation environment, I do not believe this is possible. The only way to hide physical hardware is to run the workstation environment as a guest OS on top of another virtualisation product. Be it VMWare, VirtualBox or HyperV.

    question Mobile Phones

A small update - we stopped by a few phone shops today (AllPhones, Fone Zone, T-Life store), and all recommended the HTC over the others. Second place was either SE, Motorola Defy or Nokia. Don't worry, I won't believe it until I see it with my own eyes. If we do end up with the Wildfire, and only get 1 day before a recharge, then that's something expected (as with any smartphone). But if we get more, then that's a bonus!

Are there any Issues with Lenovo B560?

I'm glad that's not the case where I'm attending. 8-) I think most lecturers/tutors would look at me strange if I said my main word-processor was Lyx,and that I only have OpenOffice installed so I can open the stuff they produce, or to make a presentation in Impress.

    Low power file server platform?

The only problem with the Linux w/ZFS solution is either you use FUSE and get crappy performance, or use the kernel module and enter an area which even the main-line kernel developers won't touch with a ten foot pool.
