    NAS Drive

I started with the Reds and was thinking about adding the Golds or similar Seagate 7200 RPM drives.

Of course I mean fly and then drive, or you could use the Armtracks and then drive.

Even if I lived there I'd still rent cars and trucks wherever I traveled. Anyway, Snowhiker doesn't live in NYC. I remember many times as a child being crammed in the back of a 1962 Corvair with no A/C driving around the Phoenix area. It was horrible in the summer after the car had been...

My point is that it can be nice to drive sometimes and it's not a bad use of money to have a better or particular use vehicle. :)

    question New Computer

So do you already have one for evaluation? Thanks, but it's not exactly what I had hoped. 12 is too many cores. I'd rather have less cores and more speed, but it looks like the CPUs with fewer than 10 cores have crippled PC lanes. :( I assume the configuration is based on the server...

    NAS Drive

I recall in days of yore there were dire warnings about mismatched drives in the RAID. Does it matter much nowadays if a new drive of another model/RPM is added to a NAS so long as they are all NAS/enterprise grade drives?

You know he is also not having much luck with a bike. I have not been on a bike bike since the early 70s and am somehow surviving. Commuting to/from work or running necessary errands in traffic or with bad weather, etc. is often unpleasant. Aside from that, some people like to drive and...

Brakes and rotors are wear parts, but I would be a bit suspicious of the need to replace other parts of the brake system. How old is the vehicle and is it possible there was water ingress?

No it is not. I had a G31 board that died after 3.5 years with similar flakiness at the end. Cheap crap.

    KVM Switch

The grim reality is that KVM is rather pointless above 1920x1200 unless every device has the same outputs. DP/mini-DP is the most common denominator of the devices. What do you think of the IONEAR GCS1934 KVM?
  22. LunarMist

    question New Computer

I replaced the cable with a mini-DP to DVI adapter. I also have another of those on the NUC and HMDI to DVI for the Lenovo, so four computers are working on the old KVM now. :)
  23. LunarMist

    question New Computer

Thanks. The P1000 is not working with the KVM, but perhaps that is due to the DP to DVD cable. It is surprising how small the video card is compared to the old fanless GeForce. I have an inherent distrust of the weenie little fans and whatever happens when they fail.

    10-bit Video

Thanks so much. The P1000 seems reasonably priced and I assume it's not consuming 47W until there is a load. Here is the video card that Dave would use.

    10-bit Video

Which video card would be good for 10-bit output? I was reading something about the internal graphics not being that and people buy the Quattro video, but I'm a bit clueless. I don't want a huge flamethrower of a card for the 3rd dimensions, but one that will operate at reasonably low power...

    question New Computer

The CPU operates at 45-48ºC on idle to low use and reaches up to 100°C under the burning load. It ranges from 80-85°C at 100% load on the more mundane tasks like file compression or backups. In practice the fan is either medium or high speed. The noise over 65 is worse than I expected. :(
  45. LunarMist

    dSLR thread

That's always good advice. I'm really hoping for an improved a7R III with 50-60MP at 8-10 FPS. The a9 has the crippling problems of only one fast memory card slot and lack of lossless compressed RAW files. There was some improvement a year or so ago when a lossless RAW format was introduced...

    question New Computer

The NUC seems to work. There is some fan noise that becomes loud under load and I have not connected the NADS yet. However, the main issue now is that I can't figure out an easy way to turn it on without the power button. I expected to be able to set the power off resume state to ON and then...

    dSLR thread

Well I have one on the way. I'm hoping to move my old 7 installation to it on Sundays. If I like it I may buy another NUC for Windows 10 in July. It looks like they all have DPP and HDMI of some sort.
