    RAID JDOG

It is impossible to get 500MB/s on a single or even on two combined GbE connexions. A single GbE link won't go over ~100MB/s.

    RAID JDOG

Two RAID 0 arrays backing each other is simillar to RAID 0+1. Reliability-wise, you would be far safer with RAID 1+0. It was wiser ten years ago and that hasn't changed nowadays. Not harder for the controller either. No additional wasted space compared to what you already do (50% waste).

As is reading press releases from the major players of the industry. I'm not aware of ANY 7200rpm 1TB 2.5" drive. If there was one, from anyone, the manufacturer's chief marketing puppet would be screaming it while running naked during baseball games. It hasn't happened, therefore, there are...

    New business machine baseline

You have to be careful with miniITX systems. Gigabyte, for instance, only covers its miniITX boards with a 15 months warranty, compared to 3 years for its conventional boards. Asus covers them for 3 years and I'm not aware about Zotac and Intel (I suppose they both cover their miniITX boards...

Intervention - stop me buying a Gateway laptop

You do not run the F@h client on a laptop. Period. A laptop is only cooled by a puny tiny cheapo fan. You simply can't expect a laptop to last while doing a task using almost all the CPU ressources for hours and/or days in a row. It is not meant to be working that hard. Unless you despise...

Intervention - stop me buying a Gateway laptop

I don't know if you've repaired laptops, but I do on a regular basis and I'm with Merc ; just buy neither. Since Gateway's been bought by Acer, their quality has felt down the drain. Hp Pavilion have always been horrible. You've basicly wrote that you hesitate between the two worst laptop...

From what I can read, the Samsung S2 500GB and 640GB models are 7200rpm, but the HX-MT010EA (the 1TB model) has a lower rpm. I didn't find its rotational speed on Samsung's web site, but and educate guess would be either 5200rpm or 5400rpm. AFAIK, there is currently no 1TB 7200rpm 2.5" drive...

The GigaByte GA-Z68P-DS3 has both a COM and parallel ports on its back panel. The only video output is an HDMI port though, but you can put a cheap graphic card in the PCI-E16X slot to add more convenient outputs. It's a full ATX board, unfortunately. It should sell for approximately 100$...
