Timing of building a new system

The only USB peripheral connected to the Z68 motherboard was a keyboard. It wasn't due to a many-cards-reader or a USB hub integrated in the monitor or anything else. I think the motherboard will do that no matter what's plug into the machine.

How to render the optical drive inoperable?

It did not want to connect on the laptop from another computer. Whatever, I bought a used combo drive for 5$ and I disconnected all the ribbon cables inside. Won't work for sure. Does not even open anymore. Hole filled, customer happy.

I've only seen this on GigaByte boards. That's three boards with three different chipsets (H55, Z68 and AMD 990FX). I don't know why they do it, but it's annoying. Asus boards don't do that and they work fine anyway.

Timing of building a new system

Here's a review of USB 3 controllers if you want to know how they fare against each others. Last week, I had to replace an MSI motherboard I sold two years ago, which had no less than five blown capacitors on it. Sure, it was a low-end offering, but I still consider it unacceptable. I have...

    Something Random

Why do retards on auction sites always ask "What's your best price?" when the selling price is already shown? Why do they think I ask the price they see if it's not the one I want? And anyway, what makes them think that my best price, if I had one, was for an half-ass I've never met who...

Merging two vintage systems for donation

Reinstalling with a generic OEM disc on an OEM box (Dell, Acer, etc) is not a problem because in that case, the key on the sticker might have never been activated before. So it's like a brand new installation to MS' eyes. However, reinstalling with the same key, but after a hardware change...

I think he only needs to access files and he'll use a wideband wireless connection (typically low bandwidth). VPN will be heavy and slow. An FTP server should be enough (and faster).
