    Venice-core A64s kick butt.

So I've been playing with my day-old newest rig and have discovered that the venice-core A64 underclocking like a mofo. This example is a 3500+, whose maximum multiplier is 11 and FSB is 200Mhz (therefore 2.2Ghz CPU) I've been playing with CrystalCPUID to see what the processor can do and have...

What anti-spyware anti-adware combos do you use nowadays?

I really like the new version of housecall. It does a great job on spyware and adware as well as the normal virus. On top of that it's got all the stuff I like in a utility application. a) No TSR b) No install, runs directly from the source c) free can't really knock that.

    Antec P180 now listed

I used a P160 for nearly a year until I modded it too much to stay in one piece. I'm currently waiting for the P180, and tried using a 2700-BQE in the meantime, but it's too noisy. I currently have all my components just sitting out on the workbench until the P180 arrives.

Re: quiet computing. The best quiet HSF combo is a Scythe NCU-2005 with a Nexus 120mm controlled by either a Zalman Fanmate2 (cheap and manual) or a nCubed T-balancer (expensive and automatic). This has been the configuration of my last 3 systems, all of which are "silent" at 1m distance.

Yeah, that pack of smokes is most interesting. Seriously though, I'm interested in removing the fan and ducting it to an exhaust fan in the case. It has significant quiet computing capability.

Need to buy PCI ISDN cards...where?

I'm building some smoothwall machines for a client way out in the boonies. The fastest connection we can get out there is ISDN. I'm using smoothwalls as they are easy to tie into our current VPN solution. However, it appears that the smoothwall only directly supports PCI ISDN cards (not external...

Why do Socket 939 Boards suck so much?

I can't reccomend any fanless PSUs because NONE of them are actually fanless. Seriously, every one of them will only run reliably if you have a case fan providing significant airflow nearby - therefore making the "fanless" claim a bit weak. I'm really liking my new Seasonic S12-430W, it's...

    A question about LCD's

LCDs have a native resolution where the number of actual pixels is the same as the number of pixels trying to be represented. As CRTs don't have actual pixels, they represent all resolutions within their range equally. All LCDs I've used can operate in nearly any resolution by using different...

    It's Star Wars day!

$9.50 is the norm here, $10.50 is the going rate in SF. The price is still low enough to not be an issue for most viewers, I don't know why they didn't charge double fir the first week.
