But that car would handle for crap. We need a car with L x W x H Ratios of about 1 x 0.75 x <0.5 for the best performance.

Even 500W ain't enough for SLI.

What a stupid thing to say. It's like saying the Concorde shouldn't exist, or that the Ferrari Enzo or Ford GT shouldn't exist. Exuberance and selective waste are the spice of life! SLI and Crossfire are great! They just shouldn't be used for E-mail and word processing.

    Incredimail, spyware, and paranoia

I'd need to admit that Incredimail users are the most daft, ignorant, and obnoxious users I have. They don't use OE, so they don't just take what they are given, but they don't use thunderbird, so they aren't particularly intelligent. These are the users that respond to SPAM and say "yes" to any...

    Need macro indoor camera advice

I just put away an entire bottle of chianti while criticising my own pictures on a 5'x5' projector...damn I suck. I need better lighting, better diffusing, and a better camera with better focus and better control of the background. Of course, a better photographer would not need these things...

    Switching to VoIP service

Vonage and Linksys have a package deal that has been flooding the retail markets (Office Depot, OfficeMax, Frys, Circuit City, etc) around here. Perhaps they are trying to only support the packaged hardware that they co-brand? It does make the tech support easier, I'd imagine.

Hot Deal: 4GB Corsair USB Flash Drive for $99 AR

The Cheapo P&S I'm using now is 7.2MP (3072x2304), and that gives me about 220 frames on a 1GB card. The camera I'm drooling over is 16.7MP (4992 x 3328) I can see a need for an 8GB card ;)

I could've sworn I posted in this thread earlier, must have been eaten... Use P180 cases on their side. New Intel-based Mac Mini.

My HTPCs should really be called "media players". They don't store anything, and I dan't have cable tuners anywhere. All these machines need to do is be simple little computers capable of playing DiviX, XviD, MP3, FLAC, Google Earth, Worms World Party, and Firefox. For this, the minis look...

Here's my latest attempt. I figure since the image is only 800x800 and 55k I'll thow it in the thread. If anyone is interested in looking at a larger (7.2MP) copy for critique, I can post it. As you can see, I blew clear through the focal range of the camera. ISO 100 1/320th f4.0 craploads...

That's just it, I'm still using a Casio 7.2MP P&S. I'm looking at either the 10D, Rebel XT, or 20D. Wondering if the more expensive ones would be worthwhile for my very specific needs. Evidently, I will be buying a $100 sound card in 2005

Sharp XR-20X. I was hoping to sell it to my old roommate when I moved out, but he wouldn't take it even at a discount. Now I feel compelled to make use of it at the new house. So here I am, spending twice the cost of the projector on a screen that passes the GF test.

Evidently, I will be buying a $100 sound card in 2005

I'm afraid I have to duck out. I was just "forced" into buying an in-ceiling electric projection screen. $2400 for a screen leaves no room for a $100 sound card.

That is indeed very interesting behavior. I've never experienced it and I only install to SATA HDDs from PATA CD-Roms. The only issue I've had loading windows in a long time was from a bad video card, and it crapped out long after the point you are menitioning.

Nichia Develops 60 Lumen Per Watt White LED

jtr, you are quite crazy. Cooling an LED to -44C in the name of efficiency? Madness. My kind of madness ;). Going back to some other stuff: IIRC, a very steady voltage is requred to drive LEDs correctly. If I have a really nice 300W 12V source, whats the best way to use it?

Where are the big 4:3 LCDs?

Funny, that is my browsing habit as well. The only reason I use 1280x1024 is becuase that's the native res on my monitor. I was actually looking forward to the Dell 30" Screen because then I could use 1/4 of it's native res (1280x800) and still have a sharp image. A 1024x768 32" LCD would do...
