Northbridge still running warmer than I'd like

Afraid not. I swore to never again use a fan smaller than 80mm in a computer. They are, by definition, loud, unreliable, and ineffective.

Sorry, thermal epoxy, the two-part stuff.

Northbridge still running warmer than I'd like

I'm tempted to see if I can get another Scythe SCNJ-1000 to fit in there. Does anyone think thermal paste would be enough to hold it in place? :eekers: Disable the onboard ethernet? There is an interesting idea. There is a second GbE on the motherboard, I might try disabling the NB-based one...

Northbridge still running warmer than I'd like

Gigabyte nForce 4 motherboard, passively cooled with one of these: But it's still running quite hot @ 260Mhz and +0.2v :o It isn't unstable in any way, but it's way too hot to touch, and that makes me nervous. I'm looking for a more effective passive cooling solution; there isn't that much...

    Really Fast Drive! or ?

I was really excited about this until I installed Vista for the first time...9.5GB! Even the I-Ram 2 @ 16GB means we're cutting it a bit close for a single-drive workstation.

Yep. It includes all the union-related wage contributions for every employee of a large construction company. Each employee has their own sheet, then the first sheet includes a series of summaries about them. An absolute mess.

    We are turning communist

This is a nifty idea, though I can't think of a way to make it work without doing the thing I hate most: Support laziness and sloth. And eventually, reverse evolution? Just thinking of the stereotypical fat woman living in the south having kid after kid while on unemployment/social...

I just put together an Excel pivot table that made my computer spit up all over itself. It's only 6.6MB with 14 columns and 1300 rows, on the first sheet...then it has a sheet for every row on the first. That entire first sheet is one giant pivot table collating all the following sheets. A 3800+...

    Recommendation wanted, HDD cooler

I agree with Sol on this one. Fans small enough to fit in a single-drive enclosure will not work well, will be noisy and will fail quickly. One option is to get a multi-drive enclosure that is larger (and consequently has a larger fan). The other option is more of a home-brew; Use a Zalman...

    We are turning communist

Tannin, I appreciate your latest post. The second paragraph of which has me most interested. "Productive effort" determined how? Pure hours of labor? Hours of education required to perform the task? Shortage of workers available to perform the task? 'Cause, that sounds a whole lot like...

I'll second mubs and howell here. I support the tax-deductible nature of charities, but not the tax-based mandatory spending imposed by welfare.

    We are turning communist

Not an anarchist, but certainly a financial conservative bordering on libertarian. Sure, I'll pay taxes to cover the fire/police/roads/schools, but what are they going to do with the rest of the money they take? (I could rant right here about the inefficacy/inefficiency of leaving the latter two...

That didn't take long at all, did it. Debates that I've taken part in can be quite informative. If you go into a debate believing that you and everyone else involved already know all there is to know about an issue, and that you still maintain your current stance, what's the friggin'...

And this is what I get for OC'ing beyond reason. I start a flame and than aren't here to watch it! Yes. Socialism, communism, welfare, and most charities are all things I dissaprove of. We are turning communist

What does any of that have to do with communism? Totalitarian big-brotherism perhaps, certainly police-state material, but nothing to do with the commies. I hate communism/socialism because it's stupid. I hate this crap because it's evil. That's a whole nother level of bad ;)

Even 500W ain't enough for SLI.

Even a hint of efficiency is not only not needed but is often unwelcome in matters of fun. I drive a VW that gets nearly 40mpg because I do 30,000+ miles a year. If I had a 10-mile commute to the office, you bet I'd have a 4+ Liter V-8 in a stomping beast, and would be most upset if they traded...
