    Yay! I installed Fedora...now what?

Well, I booted to the cd and it seems I have indeed broken something. I can access the network fine from here, but still can't mount a network share locally. Other than that and finding a god media player, I think I'm pretty happy. Based on what I read in the thread linked to earlier, it might...

    Interesting Seagate tech

Cute. But what happens when the computer is off and the drive cools down? Or when it is in an enterprise/industrial environment and the abient gets a tad warm?

    Yay! I installed Fedora...now what?

After trying to follow these directions and significant googling, here's where I think I am: A username and password that has permissions to the windows share? Check. Check. I've been all over this config and can't find a firewall. But I was able to browse to the share, so check, I think. I...

    Yay! I installed Fedora...now what?

I got VLC added even though it isn't a kubuntu app (learned how to manage repositories, and create shortcuts to apps, and where the apps are located in the first place). But it still can't connect directly to a Samba share! WTF? Help please?

Progess: 1. Done 2. Done 3. Done 4. Minor googling- looks like it would be easiest to export from inside outlook into something standardized, then import. Put off til tomorrow. 5. New highest priority - It seems that the players included can't play media that's on a Samba share AND don't know...

    Yay! I installed Fedora...now what?

Considering it's been a year and a half since my last attempt, I've decided to have another go. Earlier this evening I accidently tore my workstation hard drive in half (I'd make Coug proud, don't ask). When I was considering re-installing windows the same night I was furious with them over...

I'm a bit assymetrical. I do considerable "excessive" shaving on my right side, and only the typical shaving on the left (My dance partner's right ear is against my right cheek - hence the additional attention). I find the irritation on my left side gone after a few seconds under the very hot...

The thing that I find makes the most difference is the steaming hot towel they lay on your face before and after. After getting a great straight-razor shave in Nepal, I looked into all the possible options. These days I use a telescoping convex mirror and shave in the shower. It's the most...

[minor musings] 2AM, just got home from SF. Many people think I'm crazy driving ~600mi/week for dancing, but I think I've figured it out. Terrestrial Engineering. Objections?

You hit it on the head, I think. When it comes down to it, people want money more than they want representation. Most people these days think representation is a way for them to look out for their interests, so they can make money. If someone offers them a "shortcut", many are shortsighted...

    World Cup 2006, June 9 - July 9

I have played golf. For a while it was a business neccesity, and I played quite regularly. Really long drives and a 150+yd lob wedge compensated well for my lack of putting, allowing me to brag of a 6 handicap. But I don't play anymore, it's not that interesting to me. It, like most ball-based...

I feel it's important for there to be an element of danger in my hobbies. If you are playing a safe type of sport, you never know the caliber of the others playing with you. When we're racing in the open ocean; just the fact that someone has done it before, lived, and choose to do it again...

I've never really been attracted to sports where balls are involved; I guess I've been happy with the pair I have. *ducks* Sailing, Auto Racing, Rock Climbing. Still no fun to watch, but at least you can die doing it. That tends to keep the excitement up while competing.

I'm quite alright with the CPU util being high, I just don't want it to affect the quality of the playback. It's currently at the point where it's noticeable to non-geeks, and that's pretty bad.

Yes, I was thinking about those. I used to have the Sapphire "ultimate edition" of the card which was fanless. However, I'm concerned that it produces too much heat for this case. This is a SFF chassis with a large PCI sound card between the graphics card and the only fan. I don't think there...

I just ordered some "cheap" systems...

My first performance beef with the cheap systems: Playing an XviD video stream is showing average of 80% CPU useage and dropped frames. Is this because of the crappy onboard video? I'd think a Semperon 3100+ should handle some multimedia?

These actually don't. The only USB-related switch (that doesn't disable the plugs) is for whether USB drives should be treated as a floppy or a hard drive. Reseting BIOS does nothing, flashing to latest does nothing.

I just build 2 servers and keep a manual copy on each. That protects from all possible failure points. 1. Drive/array failure 2. System Failure 3. Housefire (other system is in another building) 4. Accidental deletion (when I bother to maintain my backups.
