    Passively cooled S939 solution?

Actually Mark, that looks like a nice board for my needs. The reason I was asking for more PCI slots is because my video card has an oversised heatsink that draws from the bottom. I only have one PCI card (X-Plosion sound card), but it effectively blocks off my video card's intake. Having the...

    Passively cooled S939 solution?

Yes! That's the one I used to use, but newegg doesn't carry it anymore. They only carry the SLI boards and an actively cooled one. I loved the 8 SATA ports and dual GigE on this board. Do you have a recomended vendor where it is available?

    Passively cooled S939 solution?

    1. Passively cooled Mobo 2. Socket 939 3. At least one PCI-E 16x slot Preferably not SLI, as that reduces the number of PCI slots.

    Does Mylar conduct?

I've built a custom lighting enclosure using daylight flourescent bulbs. I have some highly reflective stuff that I think is Mylar, and I'd love to simply wrap it around the back of the bulbs to use as a reflector. However, I know the ballasts jack the voltage up to the tens of thousands of...

    Watch preferences

My favorte watch to date was the least bulky. It was a Swatch...let me see if I can find it...nope, of course they've discontinued it. It was close to this one: http://store.swatch.com/theme_2watch/YPS402G The watch itself is as thin as the band (1-2mm) and weighs almost nothing. The one I had...

    Cold

Eh, It's warmer now...the heater likely won't go on again for another month or two. The climate here is kinda weird. Summer and Winter are both nice and sunny with warm days (70s and 80s). Spring and Fall are a bit cooler with fog and overcast (50s and 60s). That's the extent of our seasons. I...

    December 2006 desktop PC

$600 Rigs are easy...they just aren't Core 2 Duo. Stick with a X2 3800+ (or a 3600+ if you can find one). If you can keep it S939 as opposed to AM2 you can use the (cheaper and faster) DDR vs. DDR2. Good motherboards with decent onboard video for $100-$130, dual-core CPU for $150. Not a problem...

Congrats on the gig Adcadet! On another note; I'm just about to do another system build. "Hm" I think "everyone is talking about how competitive Intel's new chips are, let's have a look". They start at nearly $200. $200? WTF? I haven't bought a chip (for someone else) that cost more than $200...

    AllPeers?

I just went to install on my new system (old one fried) and it seems to have borked my FF install. I must admit I was doing some sketchy OC'ing at the time, but now I have no extensions and it killed my profile. Recognising I was likely the cause with my OC+undervolt combo, I tried to re-install...

    Speedfan update

For now I've just set the drive aside and done a temp install on another drive. I will at some point attempt to do a recovery of it. BIOS detects it fine, as does Linux when booted to the CD. But it can't be mounted, and it can't be accessed. We'll see what I can do when I have more time.

    Upgrade compareson

I agree with your reasoning on the RAM speeds, and would further mention that 4600+ CPUs are significant overkill. 3800+ is more than sufficient.
