    Internet safety for parents

I agree completely. I had a client approach me on this subject a while ago. He started asking about software that could make the internet "safe". The first thing I touched on was that no matter what he did, his kids would be able to see anything they wanted (and likely stuff they didn't). I said...

I find that media player classic (using ffdshow and ac3filter) are able to do what I need, but I havent screwed around with the vendor-specific stuff or HD.

    Hard Drive Configuration Ponderings

Replace #2 with both 250GB drives. Put #2 in a removable tray and alternate weeks with #3, so you have one in a safe place all the time.

    Power supply wiring colors...

Good point. I should be able to look at the wire locations on the ATX connector of the two wires and compare to verify voltages. Thanks (this is what I get for playing with large capacitors late at night). I should get back to the high-powered metalworking tools...

    Power supply wiring colors...

I need to do some pretty serious modding on the power supply for my new system (airflow, cable lengths, connector count, fans, etc). Part of this will be a new wiring harness. Are the voltages/colors of the wires (red, yellow, orange, white, black, blue) an industry standard? I'd like to use the...

And there is the rub. There is no way I can justify the cost, considering that Server is free, and behaves the same when everything is working correctly.

    My new system

That is exactly why I'd like to try ESX. I have a bunch of servers where 2003 and VMWare Server are the only things loaded on them; they aren't even a member of the domain and don't have network access. What they do have is a several dozen VMs spread accross 20 cores, 20GB of RAM and 20 spindles...

    My new system

Agreed...I'd really like to play with ESX and vMotion. I have many production VMs on a number of multi-core servers; moving those around and doing better perfomance tuning would be a dream.

I agree. It is klunky, slow, has a poor AI, and doesn't work that well. Setting up something similar yet different would be nice.

AMD shuips their typical aluminium fin cooler with a decent-sized fan on it. I suspect I'll be able to run without the fan by undervolting my 4200+ 65W. I purchased some Scythe Katana CU coolers what work with AM2, but it won't quite fit in my Antec Aria :(

Totally agree. Some people complain when I tell them the Symantec product they just bought is crap. They ask if they can install it on another computer they have (!). If it's bad for your fast computer, it won't do that P2/333 any good, either.
