    Windows Hosting

I'd assume that it's due to the massive potential security issues hosting on Windows. All the services I've seen require a layer of UI between you and the system. The only exception is when you rent a whole server.

I was just talking to the girl about health coverage; as one of the things she will lose along with her husband is insurance. The quote she received to continue her current coverage is $500/mo. It seems that you either have useless insurance for piece of mind (like Merc) that doesn't kick in...

    Details on quad-core AMDs

12 SATA ports is a bit much for me. With 750GB drives, 5-7TB would be enough. I agree that a low-powered CPU would be lovely, my 65W CPU makes me happy.

    Podcasting software that doesn't suck?

Marketplace, Car Talk, and Fresh Air are not available via podcast. I just got Wait Wait and Motley Fool. OTM is good; I'll have to look into it. TAL is a mixed bag for me; sometimes I can handle the reality, sometime I have enough already. Car Talk uses Audible, and charges. Fresh Air has...

State of the union, help me choose/design new PC

64-bit windows is still more hasstle than it's worth. For the record, there is no way to get even the latest (released a few weeks ago) version of Act to run on anything 64-bit. I ended up running it in a VM. My sound drivers wouldn't run, neither would the Azalia drivers for my onboard sound...

I loved my P160, then I got a P180 and liked that even more. I'm currently using a P150 as a chair (one of a half-dozen I bought this week). Podcasting software that doesn't suck?

That would be why I asked. I most certainly don't want iTunes anywhere near my precious machine. But 3rd party tools are available. Right now I'm trying out one called iPodder that seems to do most of what I need.

    Music

Just bought the first album of a new band from SF called Honeycut. Not really the style of others here; but I really enjoy it, and I think the production is brilliant. I've been reading a book called "This is your brain on music"; and this band works all the right emotional angles in their songs.

Yep, hers is good for 10 years...yay. I didn't think it would be that big an issue, considering her divorce would likely take a year or so, and by then we would have a good idea whether it was going to work or not.

Nope, I'm on El Camino Real a few blocks from Stanford; practically between Stanford University and downtown Palo Alto. Very nice neighborhood. I actually saw a Mercedes SL55 AMG loose a drag race last week (to a Ferrari 550 Maranello) about a block from here.

    Podcasting software that doesn't suck?

    Tiger-286 Motherboard CMOS Battery

    :geek: Actually, I was 11 in 1991. But we were poor, so I got a 286 when I was 14. I had a 386-33 until 1996, a Pentium 133 until 2000, when I bought a Celeron 300A. It's one of the reasons I go high-end now...because I can.
