I actually want DVI for my new LCD monitor (21.3" 1600x1200). I've been using DVI on LCD for about 3 years now; and I can see the difference pretty easily.

I've done a number of mods to the Aria already; mainly in the PSU, but also in the rear exhaust area. Now I think I need to open up the front to encourage air past the hard drives. I assume from the nature of the comments so far that 40C is too hot for HDDs?

I upgraded the PCI slot fan to Antec's larger (2-slot) multi-speed variant. It actually makes very little difference in the HDD temps whether it is on high or low (even though the air out the back is significantly higher). This leads me to believe that I need better air control rather than just...

I've been using Antec NeoPower PSs with my P180s. They work great. Front-Back airflow, modular cables, and the 12v and ATX cables are long enough for all the motherboards I've tried.

Everything is now stable, and I'm planning on adding another video card. The only thing that worries me is that the HDDs run at 40C. 1) Is this too hot for important data 2) If anyone is familiar with the Aria chassis*, can you suggest any mods to keep them cooler. *it's tricky to describe...

Actually, I only need the DVI port. I was planning on getting rid of the VGA plug and ribbon cable to help airflow. This is a very crowded SFF system (see sig), and I don't want to impede anything.

I'm looking for a low-power, PCI-E video card with 1x DVI out. If it was low-profile as well, that would be great. Video quality of VGA @ 1600x1200 just...sucks. I'd would be great if it was an nVidia chipset, as it needs to play well with the on-board 6100 (driving the projector @ 1024x768)...

Odd quirk about this monitor. When the monitor goes into standby, the 4-port USB hub turns off. Therefore the USB keyboard and mouse aren't able to wake it :(

I wouldn't trust Thermaltake or whoever those other guys are on their dB measurements. I can almost guarantee that a Seasonic S12, Nexus, or even an Antec Neo will be quieter.

Thanks all. I actually had installed the inf for the monitor off the CD that shipped with it, and it displayed the monitor name correctly, but it took a new inf from Viewsonic's website to correct the problem. Thanks again.

How do I get 1600x1200 on an integrated 6100 video card? Even 1280x1024 would be nice... Latest drivers; and a few older ones do nothing. Omega has stopped nVidia development. BIOS states that I've allocated 128MB of RAM to video (the maximum), You'd think that would be enough?

I had an Inkjet that held up for years; an HP Deskjet 550C. That sucker never died; it was finally replaced by something with more features, and that did die (so did the countless replacements).

Of course. It's the most prevalent audio format out there that is DRM-free. I won't work with WMA or m4a for that reason; FLAC, APE, etc are too fussy when it comes to playback on different devices.

I can't say anything about the 150GB ones, but I've had about 20 36GB failures out of...erm...25 original drives (All in under 3 years). Some of them survived, some replacements failed, but that isn't a good record. The 74GB ones I have have all survived the duration to date.

Considering S754 is still very available; I don't think I'd be too worried about S939. Besides, following Mark's suggestions, you'd have enough money to buy many spares. The only technologies I don't expect to see in 3 years would be PATA, AGP, PCI, and DDR.

Well, they're $380 now. I would expect a drop to around $300 by the time the 1TB drives ship (Q1-'07?), and a much slower decline after that. I would actually be surprised if they went that low ($200) within 12 months.
