Suggestions on a simple computer backup plan?

You got it. Acronis TrueImage and a USB drive is the way to go. For such a small target drive; I'd actually think about getting 2x 40GB pocket-sized ones, and rotate them through.

There are still options for intelligent people. The masses are being screwed by M$; but they were being screwed by Apple before that, and by Real before that...if you aren't knowledgeable, you will get screwed by corporations. When (not if) M$ prevents non-DRMed media from being played; then I...

    More Vista nonsense

IIRC, you mean the Action Pack. Last time I got one it was $300 and good for one year. I make my clients get them so I can set up non-production servers or do other testing. I end up using the 2003 standard and enterprise licenses there, and use the web edition on my workstations at home.

Spending one day nuking the current system only sounds like a good idea if you know the problem will take 2 days to fix. Justifying the expense of a redundant system only makes sense if you suspect that a 2-day outage is even possible. This started as a simple server migration. Active Directory...

No, having 4 guys from Microsoft spend 8 hours fixing everything for me while I watch (and bill). The client was less worried about my charges and more about what the army from Redmond would charge. Their total cost? $300.

2PM...still here...I've had MS on the line (and connected to my network) for the last 8 hours. One team in Bangalore working on Exchange and another somewhere in China doing the AD work. No, it isn't. He had personal problem unrelated to SF (or the internet in general for that matter), that required tending to. He is fine, and will be returning when his affairs are in order. I have been in e-mail contact with him, and know this information first-hand.

I actually agree with Merc as well; Outlook is crap software. But it isn't as bad as he makes it sound. It is an integral part of any "MS shop", and works for that purpose.
