If you were to fill them with pictures of your cats, you wouldn't need to travel ;) Those are, of course, taken to the max. But having 2 systems, each with a non-redundant array on them,is a pretty reliable storage system.

Lunar, Both arrays are JBOD (no redundancy), but are in seperate locations with scheduled backups between. This is plenty reliable for anything shy of a datacenter IMHO (no single point of failure). Bozo, I like quiet computers. Not just quiet when idle, but quiet full-stop. Therefore...

    Poll: Anyone like to cook?

That was really good, but I want a barbeque. Now soliciting advice. I want one that can handle 4 large steaks simultaneously. Is there a particular brand I should be looking for? What do you think of this Ducane 688-Square Inch 2 burner?

    Poll: Anyone like to cook?

Just did the steak recipie for the second time. 4 big ribeyes on a huge (24"x18") cast iron skillet. Worked great; just as advertised. Only problem was that there was so much smoke I had to pull the battery from my smoke alarm.

The best way to backup a large array is with another large array. My primary array is 6x500GB, and is backed up to a 4x750GB array. I'm still convinced that my server chassis (Coolermaster Stacker) full of Supermicro SATA hotswap enclosures (5-in-3) and a pair of Seasonic 600W Power Supplies is...

I looked at the price difference ($12) and couldn't help myself. Will the user you just described tell the difference? No. But, if they look at the spec, and compare the big number at the top (3200+) to the big number at the top of other computers (e.g. 3.0Ghz) that $12 makes it look like a much...

I suppose a differentiation should be made between "office computer" and "workstation". In my mind; an office computer is the computer in a small/home office. It needs to be able to handle everything a small business needs; including file storage and a backup mechanism. A workstation on the...

I've een using wireless keyboard and mice for years, they have only let me down once. The lack of desk clutter and significant additional freedom of movement in a wireless mouse is certainly worth it. 1GB of RAM is absolutely worth it for anyone; even just Windows XP and Firefox run better with...

Jail and prison are places where I don't plan to be again, TYVM. And you can still use your laptop in the hospital during visiting hours, but they take it from you at night. (At least that's how it worked for a friend when he lost his leg).

Buck, WRT Floppies: I know what you mean, and I spec a USB floppy drive for every office (I have each client buy a "toolkit" from me as part of support and maintenence). Believe it or not, the latest version of Primavera Expedition (released a few weeks ago and costing 5 figures) says it...

    e-mail question

On the 3Ware cards I have, it asks for the SMTP server and the e-mail addresses to be sent to/from. You could set up a rule in Outlook to forward e-mails from the card to multiple people, or (IIRC) you can type the name of the distribution list into the "to" field.

Buck, What you basically just said is that a $350 computer can't do what I $700 computer could (run everything quickly at once). But that's not really a point, is it? Dell's cheap business boxes are a lot like Schrödinger's cat, in that they work fine so long as they do, but as soon as you try to fiddle with it or look inside, it will never work again. For the price (with 2 year warranty) you can't do much better.
