Nice steak recipe Merc. I love steak, and was actually shopping online for a grill last night (my complex lets me BBQ on my deck).

    Poll: Anyone like to cook?

I've just started cooking again in the last week. For the last decade or so I've been eating out pretty much every meal of every day. Now I have an actual apartment that I'm happy with (proud of?) and someone worth cooking for. So far it's been real simple; quesadillas, pancakes, pasta...

Well Chewy, I find myself in the opposite situation. On wednesday I helped Olga move out of her husband's house while he was at work. She moved in with me. They've been "seperated" for about 2 months. We've been talking marraige/house/kids for about 1 month. Of course, I won't formally propose...

Nevermind, I must be lacking brains today. Googling crutchfield's site showed me the way, cheapest being this one: Clarion DB365USB - $130

Car stereo with MP3 USB in?

I'm getting the GF a new car stereo for her "new" car (1997 Ford Escort). I want it to support USB thumbdrives full of MP3s directly. Is there anything on the market that does this? I've been looking on Crutchfield and can't see anything promising.

PC Gaming = World of Suck

The thing I liked the most about the latest Rainbow Six was the "terrorist hunt". Everyone on the same team, everyone has one life (no respawn), try to kill all the baddies with their difficulty cranked. Everyone advances slowly ('cause if you die, you're out for the round). Teamwork and perfect...

Actually, I have to go with you on this one. Being a geek tends to be uncool. Being gay tends to be uncool. Therefore gay people seem to be less concerned about being uncool. Therefore gay people are more comfortable being geeks (or other niche personality types).

My process through a thread is odd I guess. I read the new posts since my last reading, type my reply into the "Quick reply" window, then post it, then I read the thread from the beginning including my new post. At this point any coherency issues begin to arise and I wish for an edit.

I don't know of many in our age range, but there are quite a few available for the next generation. At the gaming center I'm used to seeing girls in the 11-15 range playing WOW or CS and doing their MySpace thing, but before these girls would evaporate at the prospect of college, football...

    Antec P180 $69.99 after MIR w/free S&H

There is about 1" of space between the back of my case (with the fan removed) and the HSF. I was noticing a lot of air moving right along this gap. I've since blocked off the rear fan hole, the vents above the PCI slots, and the front fan opening. I've removed all the PCI blanking slots below my...

    Even higher density hard drives.

IIRC, 1TB in Febuary. The tech described here won't be ready for another 5-10 years, unless it is eclipsed before it's even released. I don't like the idea of intentionally creating heat, or including additional components (optics) into drives.

    Antec P180 $69.99 after MIR w/free S&H

Actually, I did some smoke-testing on mine with only the top fan running and no fan at all at the back. It pulled a significant amount of air through the back hole and then blew it out the top. I consider this wasted, as it never even came into contact with my massive CPU HSF, much less my NB...

Acronis does it in Windows, both create and restore, very easily. All I do is store a backup image of my entire system drive. Suggestions on a simple computer backup plan?

If his system drive is 40GB, getting a drive larger than 40GB to hold an image of his system is silly. This is a smaller USB drive that doesn't need seperate power so it's easy to use. That, plus Acronis ($30) is all you need.
