Indirect Lighting for the living room...$$$

...or would an aluminium gutter (for heat dispersion) make more sense? Here is a 20' Length of .032" thick aluminium gutter with a 6" width. Would that work better?

Indirect Lighting for the living room...$$$

OK, let's get the ball rolling on a flouescent solution. Here is a sample gutter. 4.5" wide at the top, and about 3" deep. What should I get to put in there? If you could include links to tubes, ballasts, etc. that would be great. Don't worry about dimmers, this should provide enough light...

Indirect Lighting for the living room...$$$

Great info guys...thanks. WRT power consumption: In this apartment, utilities are included ;) further, we have the heater cycling on about 10% of the time anyway; and it's noisier than the light fixture. But if we were to move, than this would be of greater concern. So far I like 2 options...

Indirect Lighting for the living room...$$$

Thanks for the lengthly response JTR: I was considering a stepped Flourescent solution, but one of the things that really appealed to me about the Xenon system I linked to is the very low profile. The ceilings here are of the standard 8-foot variety, and the GF and I are tall (5'10" and 6'2")...

    Cell Phone for E-Mail?

Actually, one of the things that makes this so expensive is that the dimmer is on the 24v side and designed to handle 1200W. The dimmer alone is $250+ :(

Indirect Lighting for the living room...$$$

My new apartment has no in-ceiling lighting in the living and bedroom. That's great, as I hate the ugly fixtures usually stuck up there in apartments. This is my opportunity to do something I've always wanted to do; install dimmable indirect lighting into a picture rail around the entire room...

$600 is not bad. That is cheaper than an iRAM of half it's capacity. Of course, it would be great if they would sell it for less ;) My recent domestic spree has siphoned all the money from my tech fund, but I suspect that this drive or something similar is in my near future.

Shipping by ship is very cheap; if you are willing to wait a month or so. If you spend $2-3k on a couch, a pretty small percentage of that will get it anywhere in the world...eventually.

This motherboard does not have native SATA support. Drivers will be needed during the boot-up phase for the OS to boot properly. To be honest, I'm not that worried about the spedo at this point; my GPS will give me accurate info no matter what. And it's not like doing 100 instead of 110 will keep me from a ticket ;) I drive whatever speed feels safe; generally from 85 to 110, but once I hit the rev limiter in the 120+ range.

My main issue is that at 100mph my engine is running at near 5000RPM. Considering my commute is about 100mi and I drive about that fast, my engine is running at 5000RPM for nearly an hour; I know that can't be good. This strikes me as the simplest/cheapest way to get the revs down a bit...
