    Cheap Molex to SATA

My current learning project is the Linux Terminal Server Project, specifically the k12ltsp designed for school computer labs. My mother is a 3rd-grade teacher in a public school, and has been talking about getting me to put machines in her classroom for nearly a decade. I'll be looking at new...

Samsung about to release 1TB drive.

I'm anxious for it to come out, but only because of what it should do to the 750GB 7200.10 SATA pricing. I'm running out of space again...

Socket 370 : most unreliable ever.

I had major Slot 1 issues a few years ago. The motherboards were failing left and right. Rumor was that the board couldn't support the weight; but based on current heatsink dimensions, I can't really believe that.

24TB in a single box is now possible.

Sorry to hear of your trouble, I have a few 4-port and 2-port 3Ware cards sitting around as well. I suspect that when the next "big thing" comes around, I'll be trying to hold onto my current 3Ware card too.

Stupid question of the day: If you don't remove the plastic protector from the bottom of a stock AMD heatsink, install it anyway, and run it; how long will it go before the 90C thermal shut-off triggers? Answer? About 10 minutes. Lesson learned? If working on a system that someone else built...

    How porn is wrecking relationships

Before women's rights, before women were talked to and thought of as equals, there was a mystique about them; a sense that they were separated from the dog-eat-dog world that men lived in. Men have always gotten into fights, wars, crime, etc; as well as being involved in business and sports. As...

    How porn is wrecking relationships

Women asked to be treated as equals. Be careful what you wish for... *I've never been violent towards a woman, nor would I condone such action. My point is that it is more than just modesty that helped discourage violence against women, but the entire concept of a separate social class.

RAID Level Migration (LSI 320-1 Controller)

This is one of the reasons I always put the OS on either a single drive or RAID-1. If the system has room, you might include that recommendation; just a pair of cheap drives would make later maintenance easier, and would make your current migration a snap ;)

I've found saying non-words to cause non-geeks eyes to glaze over. If I'm talking to a CFO and spell out S-A-S, he knows he shouldn't know that word, and that it's probably expensive.

    Jumbo Frames?

So...next we need to find the cheapest switch that supports this functionality. Ton's of cheap NIC's support 802.1q. ...and some cheap Switches. ...and some NAS devices. But I didn't see any cheap-ish routers with GbE and 802.1q.

    Jumbo Frames?

Unless the jumbo-frame devices were connected to both virtual networks, then they would communicate with those that could handle it with them, and those that couldn't without them; provided their NIC could intelligently switch the feature on and off depending on what VLAN they were on.* Of...

RAID Level Migration (LSI 320-1 Controller)

I just went through the Users Guide and it doesn't look like it supports level migration; there is no menu setting that enables it. Further, it is a neat feature, and would be bragged about on their product page; it isn't. Looks like Ghost will be your friend. With 80GB of data, it will...

    Samsung drive vibration

The Seagates that I'm running I'm happy with. Any time I build a workstation where noise is an issue and capacity is not, I use a 2.5" HDD. They don't cost much for 80GB and noise/heat simply aren't issues.

I used to use a hosts file before Firefox/AdBlock came around; I haven't had a need for one since. All you need to do to fix it is find out what IPs the links/logos point to and delete those lines from the hosts file; this is a really easy thing to do.
