I am clinically bi-polar, so don't expect too much out of me ;) In the second paragraph you posted, you presented the standard line. "You should be happy, there are people worse of then you." So what? Just because people tell you to be happy doesn't mean anything, and just because that line has...

    Looking for a uATX case

I'd go with an NSK3300 as well, if you can get them to OK the size. It's essentially the smallest normal tower I've ever seen. Below that are too many compromises to be comfortable with.

I can second Merc's experience on that one. That's why I always pay the extra ~$300 for the Latitude.

I flash WRT54Gs with aftermarket firmware that is supposed to double power output, than I add the larger 7dBi antennas. With this config I can get to the other side of a downtown block or across the street 2 floors up.

I can link it to my phone for faster text messaging ;) Seriously, I've replaced the stock Bluetooth receiver with an aftermarket one from Linksys that has an antenna. Much better range for use with my projector/HTPC setup. It also links to my laptop without having to plug in a dongle of any...

    Why C.A.F.E Standards are Dumb

I've lived in about 20 places in Berkeley and San Francisco over the years. Most of that time I took public transportation BART (subway), trolley lines, busses, and CalTrain (longer distance commuter rail). There is only one bus I would take if given the option, the Marina Express. "The Marina"...

5 of the 6 Seagate 750GB drives I currently have came from Newegg, the 6th died in an aftermarket USB enclosure at Merc's and is now a refurbished drive from Seagate. My Logitech MX1000's rechargeable batteries are going bad. I'm thinking of adding a wired mouse for desktop work and just using it for the HTPC stuff. I recently added a Logitech G15 keyboard and am really happy with it so far. I suspect I'll get one of these.

Occasionally, on a really good day, I care about the future of humanity. When I do, the biggest concern I have is that stupid and poor people are breeding way more than smart/rich people are. I wholeheartedly agree with Merc and Will that the world needs less people, not more. I think if the...

    Why C.A.F.E Standards are Dumb

Making everyone spend a higher percentage of their time in the car is not a worthwhile trade off. Increased economic efficiency benefits everyone. Happy enough is a simple term to me. There are things in life that need to be done to continue living. Some of these things I don't enjoy, or even consider work. If the positive things don't outweigh the negative, then a neutral position (death) is the better choice. It's the most basic of...

I've had a fun time playing with Russian keyboards lately, and apparently there are 2 versions. The second is identical to an English keyboard wherever possible, replacing...

    Why C.A.F.E Standards are Dumb

This doesn't make sense to me. Businesses stay in business by making money. Currently, they must not think that making efficient cars is in their best interest. Why is that? What could be done to change that (without simply putting up laws to make them)?

I've always been dependent upon myself for entertainment, so I know that isn't it. The closest analogy I can come to is a video game. Why C.A.F.E Standards are Dumb

Passing laws that are against peoples short-term interest is dumb. People are cattle, and will make decisions based on what they think is best for them. This gives you 2 options; remove their ability to decide or make the choice obvious. Considering that I like to be able to decide, we need a...

That is a good response Sol, but what metric do we use to determine what is happy enough? How happy do I have to be, and for what percentage of the time, before death is no longer the better choice? How bad is death, anyway? Is it actually bad? Should we intentionally avoid it? Fear it? If I...

Another Digital Camera Thread - Point and Shoot

I would suspect that a pistol-like format would be the most stable, easy to use. Considering that the objective with a pistol and a camera are the same (easy to move around, easy to aim quickly, easy to hold still, precise timing of the trigger) I think it makes a lot of sense.

I don't think the government should be pushing any particular fuel at all; there is far too much money at stake to call them impartial. Just turn the taxes way up on all fuels, based on emissions and scarcity, and let everyone figure it out. You don't need to force the auto industry to do...
