The viewfinder is a new experience for me, all my cameras have had LCD displays (young'un alert!). The diopter adjustment does help, but I also find myself looking at the image review and re-framing sometimes. Not a big deal, IMHO.

I'm definatly not waiting until I'm older to "retire"; counting on a big payoff later sounds like a good way to get ripped off. I already take a 3-6 month vacation every 3-5 years, and try to take 4-10 day vacations every couple months. Seeing the world one bit at a time, and not being worried...

Based on my attempts to take pictures of bronze statues in sunlight, someone mentioned "HDR", which I hadn't heard of before. I looked it up, and liked the concept and some of the images posted around. So today I went back to the statues and tried fooling around. I ended up with 16 pictures...

Everyone in my family have already put on record a list of 10 things, where if we are unableto do half of them, we want to be put down. Mine includes recognizing family members, getting outside, using the bathroom unassisted, etc.

    Should we ban disposable batteries?

It looks like they have some neat modes for conditioning and "forming" batteries...I have no idea what that means. I just want a charger that will charge the battery and then stop when they are full, without me having to watch and remove them.

I've never considered age a good metric for having a good life. When my grandfather was in his late fifties, he had a heart attack. The doctor told him to stop having his steak, eggs, and bacon for breakfast. He thanked the doctor for the advice and continued to do what he wanted. He wasn't fat...

    Imagine a cluster of these...

At least. I find the the AC is significantly more than the CPU consumption due to efficiency issues. A while back I had a client with a tiny server room (the size of a walk-in closet). As the company grew, 2 full racks of servers went in there. If the AC failed, you were instantly screwed. So...

    Imagine a cluster of these...

I'm still imagining all the neat stuff I can do with tiny $200 computers. Granted, they are snail-slow (AMD Geode 500Mhz, 256MB RAM), but cheap and really low-power. I'm temped to replace my VMWare linux test environment with a bunch of these; imagine an entire server room in a lunch box ;)

    Hard Drive cooling question

Been there. Posted that. Their solution? Put the drives in a NAS somewhere else. Not really an option for me because a) there is nowhere else I want the noise and b) I like having my array local to my machine, it is faster.

    Hard Drive cooling question

I seem to recall from the old SR days mention that drives were designed to release their heat through conduction of the two long sides to the chassis. Is this correct? If so, if a drive was thoroughly insulated on all sides except the two long sides, where significant cooling was available...

I have one layer of redundancy. Besides the RAID-5/hotspare at home, I have a friend who keeps an exact copy of my array at his place. I paid for the gear, he pays the power and keeps an eye on it. Sync is via the internet, and he has read-only access to the movies and pron.
