It's finally cool enough to walk to dinner. 1.5 miles each way to a great burger joint, where I'm sure the sweet potato fries will counter any benefit the 3 mile walk will have.

    Compiling an Ubuntu Kernel?

I'm still chewing on this and starting to make a mess. What is the best way to go about getting rid of all these kernels that aren't working? Feeding your DSLR (flash memory)

Your speed argument I can understand, though SD has been making significant strides in that area. But the "small, flimsy, and fiddly" I don't. It is smaller, but that strikes me as a plus. I did some destructive testing with some smaller cards, and they held up quite well. Also the side-contact...

    Big Brother commeth...

I agree with you Fushigi, but I don't think that matters either. The masses have become stupid enough that it no longer matters what the laws say or what the smart people know. I have completely lost hope; and that means that someone way worse than terrorists have won.

    dSLR thread

Thanks e_dawg. Although I do like medium-sized prints (24"x36", and 60" wide panos), most of the time I'll be displaying them on screens with 1920x1080 resolution. So the "presentation" size is typically 1000-2000 pixels high. I've been looking at pano-heads to avoid parallax, but I've just...

Another mass build and some hardware thoughts

For a $50 budget, you are in pure inkjet crap territory. Even the cheapest lasers start at about five times that. I am also impressed, Merc. I've done smaller builds and smaller groups, but that is really awesome.

    dSLR thread

Thanks for the tip. At one point, I shot the same pano with a 3 shots @ 10mm, ~8 shots @ 50mm, and 100+ shots at 200mm. There is no doubt in my mind that the 200mm capture was sharper and cleaner, but having a pano that is more than 25,000 pixels wide causes issues with JPGs, and is cumbersome...

Good to know. I try to use one of my primes (35/2 or 50/1.8) when doing stitching (since the focal length of each shot is less relevant). I assume sharpness is the most important? If I were interested in a dedicated lens for taking large landscape panoramas, what would you recommend? Of...

The 450D's right-hand grip could be about half an inch thicker. That is my only complaint. It does use SD, but other than the fact I had accumulated CF cards, I have no complaints. They are smaller, not much slower, and hold enough (I'm using 8GB "Class 6" cards).

Using 38" Sony LCD TV as main monitor?

A CRT made for television is not worth anything, really. The last one I worked with was a top-of-the-line 42" Sony (the biggest they made IIRC). S-Video was the best input it took, and 800x600 on a screen that big looks horrible. I would have preferred a 15" LCD with 1024x768, really. It will be...
