    End of TV :(

Digital OTA (over the air) is still alive and well. Depending on how close to a major metropolitan area you are. If getting stuff over the internet wasn't so much easier, that is what I would be doing.

    TV show recommendations

Olga really likes Heroes, I have BSG but haven't watched it yet. The others I haven't checked out. 99% of my TV time is us watching together, and I don't think SciFi will pan out that well with her.

    It's HOT

This computer is getting fairly insane. I wish I could do something useful with all this heat (400W idle, 700W+ load). It never gets cold enough to need it, and when it is hot I wish I could just duct it outside. Wherever I build, it will have the option to intake/exhaust from/to outside.

    TV show recommendations

I feel guilty watching TV as it is, so I don't enjoy things that aren't at least slightly informative. Shows that I wish they made more of: Grand Designs Top Gear Mythbusters Good Eats The West Wing Does anyone have suggestions for similar shows?

    1TB Seagate for $109.99 shipped

I've had two failures out of 16 for me, and none in the bunch more I have deployed. I used Samsung until they weren't offering in flagship capacities, and I never switched back. The fact that my two failures were both operating at high temperatures (one in an unventilated external enclosure, the...

IIRC, it is the same as the OEM version. That means that it is tied to one motherboard. You can't move the license to another board/machine. They may also make you buy it with hardware, a pencil sharpener or SATA cable is enough.

    Best network configuration

None of your tasks or network are in any way complex. I would put Windows XP MCE on the server (for your XBox goodness) and leave XP on the rest. Those fundamentals are fine and will do all you need to do. Changing them will just make fixing your issues more complex. Now, about fixing your...

File Area Networking (FAN) - Data storage solutions

Some level of complexity is required to keep the files in the right places. If you want to help people find files in the structure, consider getting a Google search appliance. Of course, if the current organization sucks, that needs to be fixed regardless.

Just reading up on it now, and I can't really see what a FAN is. I support companies with 300+ users in several locations, and I just have multi-terrabyte file servers in each with replication and backup. Permissions are tied into the user management system (Active Directory). What are you...

    Broken Server 2008?

Just to make sure it isn't hardware, what happens when you boot to an Ubuntu LiveCD? I don't think it is hardware, but good to rule it out. After that, are there any peripherals you can detach/unload? With a new OS their might be major driver issues?

IIRC, Powerboost is calculated from a running average. If your average used bandwidth for the last x seconds was less than your rated speed, you will get a boost up to y MB/sec until your average speed is the rated speed.

    More Vista nonsense

In order to load something into memory and execute it, the system needs to already be compromised. I considered those features to be semi-useless anyway. Sure, it allows rights escalation, but there have always been a hundred ways to do that on Windows.
