OCZ's Vertex Limited Edition SSD: $399 for best-in-class write speeds, only 5,000 ava

Nope. Either I don't need performance and capacity (Vertex) or I do (Z-Drive). I don't bother with the middle ground that much.

OCZ's Vertex Limited Edition SSD: $399 for best-in-class write speeds, only 5,000 ava

Didn't know that, Merc. I never bought their stuff before the Vertex, but once they had something that no one else did, I became a regular customer of their drives. I still don't buy their RAM or PSUs, but the Vertex has been stellar.

Interesting, I always positioned my tower-style heatsinks directing the airflow upwards, towards the top fan in the P18x. It seemed to do a better job of pulling air from the GPU area, which drew it's air from the front then made better use of any convection to get out of the chassis. I haven't...

I might just be lucky, but it is getting much easier to convince people to fork over the cash for NBD onsite service for laptops. Of course, Dell spells out that their "NBD Onsite" plan may involve spending several hours on the phone with you troubleshooting it first, then sending the parts to...

OCZ's Vertex Limited Edition SSD: $399 for best-in-class write speeds, only 5,000 ava

Been in business for 10 years. Make their own RAM (among other things), and market their own products. In my mind, that puts them in the same pile as Micron and Crucial. They don't make their own drive controllers, so Samsung and Intel have a step up there, but I would put them above quite a...

    Is the JSF program corrupt?

I think we are talking at slightly cross points here. I do understand that presently quite a few UAVs are hand-flown, and that direct control of them during combat is the norm. But think about this: If we were to drop JSF right now and put the money that hasn't been spent yet into UAVs, where...

Almost. The same folks at Stanford (still supported by Audi) that won the DARPA challenges will be running an Audi TT up Pikes Peak at full racing speed, but without a pilot of any kind. The car will pilot itself based solely on GPS data and other inertial sensors. Video Link

The F-111 and the B-1 used to be incredible aircraft. This particular role is something AU needs more than pretty much anyone else (except for Russia). Perhaps developing something in-house based on the -111 tech would be a better solution?

Just a bit overkill for your build ;) I've often been tempted to build a watercooled rig, just for the geekery of it. But really, watercooling is designed to get you better clock speeds. I've generally found it cheaper just to buy the faster chip (if such a thing exists).

I would disagree with you there. The Apache or A-10 pilot has quite a few additional tasks to perform (flying the plane) and more things on their mind (not dying). The amount of information at your disposal sitting in a trailer is also significantly higher, and your ability to change your...

Why are we even designing aircraft with a cockpit at all? Better alternatives already exist. If you were on the ground, would you prefer an Apache, A-10, or 10 UAVs circling? My only complaint is removing multiple drives; it only lets you remove one drive at a time. SSDs - State of the Product?

SSDs - State of the Product?

There are two standard thicknesses of 2.5" drive (IIRC, 9.5mm and 11mm). Even the Intel drives now ship with a spacer to make them conform to the more common, larger size.
