Mine is the Sapphire, and it's holding out well.

Just a lack of availability. I ended up ordering them as 5e instead (plenty of selection there).

How about complaining about their lack of CAT6 selection? No 6" CAT6 at all...

Only cameras in the room were the institute's (4 nice, pro-level HD cameras with operators). I've been Googling and can't find a listing of previous lectures, pity I didn't take notes and my memory sucks.

    When to Build New System

There are the hardcore WC/OC geeks, but other than them, I know of no one who has done watercooling. I've never done it, so it is tempting just from an experience perspective.

Ah. My standard installation uses one cable. I'll see how many I still have, but I'll start setting them aside for you.

Yup, I like Marketplace. It was interesting to hear the direct accounts of specifically who they were talking and at what point those people openly admitted to not knowing anything. Hopefully it will be televised somewhere, because they named names and it was pretty damning.

90 days? Yikes. Mine started getting pretty noisy, but it quieted down once I cleaned it.

I'm considering either the Thermalright Spitfire + VRM-R5 solution or watercooling for my 5870.

Yup, 4k and 3D support make a lot of sense if I'm spending over a grand. If I wait until we are in the house and the low voltage conduit is in place, that gives me about 6 months. That should be enough time for some 1.4 stuff to enter the market.

Just got home from the Panetta Institute Lecture on the economy with Robert Reich and Harvey Pitt (moderated by Ron Insana). Humor, partisan jabs, and bragging aside; they basically agreed on the following: 1. The financial mechanisms in place are so complex that no-one, even at the highest...

If I were in better shape, I might fit ;) I still haven't finished the wood, once we move into the house and I see the color scheme I'll choose finish. The main thing it does is allow a bunch of low speed fans to silently move a lot of air over the components. It also allows full-size HVAC air...

All 9 fans, 6 HDDs, and 3 PSUs are mounted with some kind of vibration damping. Plus the entire rear panel is vibration isolated from the wall it's mounted on. The noise at the moment is still coming from the drives; I plan on suspending them with elastic on the next revision.

    Sanity check needed

It looks like their mental block is thinking that hyperthreading actually gets them more performance. From what I understand, the "hyperthreaded" core only gets the leftovers, and that wouldn't be very much in this case. So if the two cores being used were the two actual cores (as it should be...

    Presenting "The Coffin"

Low power is one. The other is that I was looking for a really fast single core. These aren't hardcore workstations, just fast home machines. Firefox, Winamp, and Media Player Classic is pretty much all they do. Having 8 slower cores gets me nothing.

    When to Build New System

I suppose it depends on where you want to be on the price/performance curve as well. Considering you tend to hold onto your systems for a while, I'm guessing pretty far up? What would your budget look like? Do you have any components you would like to carry over?

An interesting note: Not only is the server "headless" in that it doesn't have a monitor, it doesn't even have a video card. Connecting the 3Ware card into the 16x PCIe slot disabled the onboard video, and I have unplugged the PCI card I was using to set it up.

Two Gateway FPD1985 or one 24" 1920x1200 monitor?

If you are running Win7, I would go with the single big monitor. The win+left and win+right hotkeys make it more useful than a pair of smaller displays. I have multiple screens, but it doesn't benefit as much as having a big one.

So is this the cheapest Onkyo receiver that will take whatever I give it and convert it to HDMI? I would also love to have it output to two HDMI sources simultaneously (A splitter, not a matrix), but it looks like it would be cheaper to buy a separate splitter.

SSDs - State of the Product?
