    My Sandy Bridge Experience (Q6000 -> i7-2600K)

I'm really amazed at how quiet my Zalman CNPS9900NTs are. And how much noise F@H on GPUs can make them.

    My Sandy Bridge Experience (Q6000 -> i7-2600K)

You really were able to turn it directly up to 4.5Ghz? Holy crap.

...and it's a good thing the cables are so cheap...because I ordered the wrong ones (1.5' HDMI extensions instead m/m cables).

I'll second stereodude, that will be fine for <30 feet. And Monoprice's prices are still unbelievable. I just got the 4x4 HDMI matrix switch and a bunch of cables last night. Today is play time.

    Cable Management

I would only worry about coiling low voltage wires in the same pile as high voltage ones. Those guys make some neat stuff, but boy is it expensive.

7D. I thought it would be a good choice, because that moves the 35mm equivalent to 27-64, and avoids the vignetting issues on the wide end.

Today my 17-40/4 arrived. It isn't an exciting lens (super long, super wide, fast, macro), but it is a good lens in a useful range. I suspect I'll be using it quite a bit.

By shielding the heck out of it? Take a look at that quad-shielded stuff they use for cable TV runs.

    Cool system build

Yup, and the only thing that my home systems don't have at 7.9 now is RAM (7.5)

Yeah, 3+ years. Right. I did turn off the CPU folding and left on just the GPUs, it seems to have helped overall, and the responsiveness issues I was having with the system have gone.

That is an interesting device. I have a MonoPrice 4x4 HDMI matrix switch arriving tomorrow, we'll see if it works as advertised.

IIRC, the 608 you have now has some switched outlets in the back. Not sure if mine does or not.

WHY would anyone pay 400-600 for a 3g phone?

Interesting. I was having a similar problem, but I thought it was just because of my Android 1.5 lameness.

How about the $1200 6' power cable?
  22. ddrueding

    Something Random

I've been happy with their cables. That should have read "up to 20lbs next day for $5". The one trick with them is that their shipping cutoff is 6AM :( Order Saturday night and you'll get it Tuesday.

WHY would anyone pay 400-600 for a 3g phone?

Which is funny, because Verizon (IIRC) has the best coverage.

They both work, but I haven't made any changes to anything. I tested the X201 within a minute of turning it on for the first time.

That is a neat program. I may need some more horsepower myself to make full use of that. I told myself that I would hold out until the successor to the 980X...maybe not.

Sounds like Newegg. It seems they should keep more common items in more than one warehouse. Monoprice has always been pretty good to me in this regard.

My T410 is perfect in that respect.

    Lenovo Thinkpads

The $3k+ X201 arrived. Frigging awesome. Insanely fast, ultra-portable, and feature packed. Only complaint is the touchpad size. I wonder if it is larger if you don't opt for the joy-nipple.

According to the FAH GPU Tracker, my 6970 does 3000PPD, and the 570 does 15,600PPD. I would say that nVidia is the better performer here.

  40. ddrueding

WHY would anyone pay 400-600 for a 3g phone?

You don't pay $400-600 for a phone. You pay $100 for a phone and $250-450 for a PDA and $50 for a portable music player with the added bonus of not needing to carry/charge three different devices. Here is the phone I got for my grandmother.

    Best Video Card Brand

My most recent purchase was a Gigabyte, but I'm completely happy with Sapphire, XFX, and a bunch of others. I doubt it really matters at all.

    Companies that have burnt...

That is the new standard, isn't it? I know OCZ and Acer have uber-crappy customer service, but they have/had such a price/performance edge that I couldn't stay away. As others came into their space, and their products got out of the "disposable" price range, they became less and less attractive.

    3TB HD from WD

For the record, both the WD and Hitachi 3TB drives will work on the onboard controller of a DP55KG, but only if they are in "IDE" mode in the BIOS. AHCI or RAID see them as 700GB+.

When I've gone, I worked into the local food gradually. The fallback position is Snickers and Coke; both are readily available and safe. The only time I got bit was eating raw Yak at 20,000ft+ (6000m+). That didn't go well, but I did manage to lose 100 lbs ;)

    Samsung doing advanced format too?

I hope so. At the moment I have a few softRAIDs of 6 or more 3TB drives. It would be nice to get them on proper RAID cards with large caches again.
