Evidently, I will be buying a $100 sound card in 2005

I like my XM but not that much, I just have the radio here with some really old PC speakers. Thinking about this now: http://www.turtlebeach.com/products/mtgoddl/home.aspx Dolby Digital Live and some form of digital out is all I'm looking for so I can game on the big TV. Some of the quick...

    AMD launches K10 dual core

Yup, supposed to utilize the idle times that the CPU has waiting on data. Also seems to force things to "share" better when loaded at a hardware level. The OS actually sees two CPU for each hyperthreaded core.

    AMD launches K10 dual core

I thought the i7 was showing gradual single threaded improvement when compared on a clock for clock speed to the Core2 chips? Not a lot but it's there, somewhat due to all the caching and memory controller improvements. If I understand correctly these things have hyperthreading too so the OS...

Not bad. As long as ASUS releases their own drivers I guess that's OK, that's my main problem with creative. That optical converter jack looks like it will break VERY easily though. I only really care about 5.1. Researching a digital header, my onboard is Realtec ALC883, wonder if I can find...

Evidently, I will be buying a $100 sound card in 2005

Seems I have inadvertently made a bad decision and the motherboard I have now has no optical or coax out. What do we have for a decent sound card these days? Hoping for something non creative... Either old PCI or PCIEx1 is fine by me.

    Spontaneous RAM failure

I think my whole plan was to up the bus speed for OC and keep the same memory divisor, or something like that. Before this I used to always get corsair value ram. Think I'm back out of that phase.

    Spontaneous RAM failure

Yup, I just replaced mine with some cheepo PNY that was on sale locally. Long as it does 800 should be fine. Just had a similar issue myself with a system that was running just fine, just turned up with bad memory BIOS beeps all of the sudden. May have been my fault with the voltage but I am...

Do you think Sony will kill Blu-ray?

Oh yeah, I forgot about that security on the HD DVD, but in effect it's about a non-issue as it gets being bypassed long ago. Hardware wise, as I understand it HD DVD had dual tuners right from the start so they can do the multiangle or commentary window thing, guess how they do that on BD...

Do you think Sony will kill Blu-ray?

All the DRM tied in with BD isn't exactly helping things along either. Older TV's without HDCP won't work and if your player isn't one of the newer 2.0 versions with a network connection that is plugged in and ready you may run across disks that just won't play and have to go on the firmware...

    New VMWare Server

On the up side all that money I spent on the Q9550 and 4gig of memory pays off; running two VM's with a gig of memory and a CPU each fly on this thing. Too bad work won't pay for this, they sort of expect me to do all this software testing on a three year old D610 laptop with a mobile 1.8 and 1...

Yeah they are horns but they sound OK. Least I think they do, but I'm one of those people that can't really tell the difference of a MP3 at 190kbps+ to CD or HD quality DVD audio.
