    Optimising for very small files

Well he has some ground there, I was thinking myself that this could use some software optimization as others have already mentioned but you clearly don't have control over that. The 7000 series controller is it native SATA, thought that was PATA?? I had a couple 6xxx and 7xxx a long time ago...

    Optimising for very small files

What about a mirror with a controller that can read data back from both drives at the same time like a 3Ware twin store feature? With so many small files I don't see where the throughput of RAID 0 helps here? Kind of an interesting problem with the presented bazillion tiny random files situation.

What's going on in the world of LCD computer monitors?

Yeah it's worth saying twice, I have had a 32" Samsung here for about four months now and it is fantastic. I also work from home and spend like 10 hours a day in front of this thing too so totally worth it for me.

What's going on in the world of LCD computer monitors?

I'm thinking the real sweetspot isn't in monitors at all but the smaller (32ish) 1080P LCD TV's. They are well under a grand and while they aren't the highest resolution they really make a pleasant work desk. You can set the monitor way back on the desk and see everything just fine with no...

    Newegg crappy drive shipping

Grrr, now having a problem with the whole "Advance" part of the advance replacement. If I don't see tracking info soon (as in left today) I'm not going to be happy. At first they didn't want to do it at all but then they decided it was OK once they saw tracking info on the return. Don't know...

    Newegg crappy drive shipping

Cool, that's what I did. The box was a little banged up but you never see a perfect box come out of UPS. Attached is the damage, I was nearly ready to instal the drive when I finally caught it. I was thinking that if I had done this myself (the more common method of breaking by yanking the...

    Newegg crappy drive shipping

Hmm when I fill out carrier damage they say they they won't accept an RMA and to call, should I do that or just mark it as defective. In the end I don't feel this is UPS's fault, thoughts?

    Newegg crappy drive shipping

Been discussed before but never happen to me right? Well it happened to me, have a new 300gb raptor here with a broken SATA connector, bent right over. Sorry Newegg but a layer of bubblewrap around several OEM drives in the bottom of a box with packing peanuts on top of it all doesn't work...

Should be great for torrents and DVD's, I am highly disappointed in media center myself. It baffles me why I can't play something in media center when media player will play the item. Use for old cellphone

I did this on my last one. Check in your local hospital, they may have a bin for just this. There are supposedly places you can sell it where it gets to be refurbed and sold again on gray market too. Don't expect a lot but maybe up to $50. Always ebay too.

Vista How do I make it like XP?

The Inspiron is the economy/consumer line basically for housewives and students right? I haven't heard a lot of positive stuff on them really, most of the fora I circulate in knows better. I think if you are going dell you want Latitude at a minimum or the stupid expensive waste of money XPS...

I have an old corporate 8703e berry and I totally agree with the solid tactile feel of having keys, I can rip out a quick message on this thing surprisingly fast (for me, took me about forever to become a touch typist). This is why I was sort of interested in the new berry with tactile touch...

My point is there is no PCL driver available in the included windows driver list. I either get this list or the option to load from somewhere else finding an INF. What vista nonsense causes this? I have a Color Laserjet 5 that won't print in Vista x64 for some reason. I know it works fine in XP and the process for adding the printer seems to be the same in Vista as it was in XP. The only catch is the printer is IP attached via the network card in the...

    E5200 - 12.5 X 200, 9.5 x 266, or 7.5 x 333 ?

Doh, I see the point now. Regardless when speedstep drops the speed and voltage to whatever I don't think you are going to see one bit of power difference unless you tweak the core voltage down further somehow. I'd probably try for the 333x9 to start with, assuming your chipset supports 1333fsb...
