    A belated ZipZoomFly rant

If I line up the two website pages cited I see no difference at all except for some additional overclocking stuff on the P35. Maybe just a mid run manufacturing difference that warranted a name change instead of a revision?

    Useful SATA utility for hotswapping

I got the drive mounted, had to use bootitng to wipe the MBR signature. It is up and copying now and I will see about the mount/dismount when that is done. Using the regular Intel chipset inf at the moment, don't think the intel storage manager should be needed as that is sort of the whole point...

    Useful SATA utility for hotswapping

Hmm, seems my problem is a little more troublesome. The two disks which used to be my RAID1 array are fighting; I had a signature collision that is preventing windows from looking at the drive. After reboot I can see the drive in disk management but it just won't mount. So I figure no problem I...

    Useful SATA utility for hotswapping

Hmm, ok I am in win7 now and using AHCI, RAID is off. I have this utility which does seem to stop drives for removal fine. Thing is I can't add new drives without restarting the computer. The scan in this and in device manager doesn't find any new drives. Chipset driver seems to be installed...

SAS: CARDS, ETC. WORTH THE MONEY?

Why does your boot need to be so big? Is teaming a SSD and say a Raptor 300 for whatever doesn't fit just not good enough? Speed wise for desktop I don't think you will notice the difference between a raptor and whatever high end SAS you get. You will notice the much longer boot from the SAS...

    Runing out of PCIe Lanes?

Hmm, looks like I don't actually have that limitation but my x8 slot is really an x4 so that explains it. http://www.supermicro.com/products/motherboard/Core2Duo/G33/C2SBA+II.cfm I remember this was really hit or miss depending on motherboard implementation but with newer chipsets I think...

    Runing out of PCIe Lanes?

Ah yes, note 2 is a killer: I wouldn't think that taping would help, likely something in there decides if that port is in use and if so switches the lanes to that port, else the x1 lanes are enabled.

    Runing out of PCIe Lanes?

I think I have the same problem on my G33 based board, but I like my built in Intel LAN. I only have a G260 and a PCIe X-Fi Titanium at the moment. I was toying with the idea of a PERC6/i and a couple X25M's when you all were discussing them a while back but I remembered this problem.

    Runing out of PCIe Lanes?

I think your video card is running X16 and can't shift those lanes down to something else because it is on another chip. Supposedly there are 16 lanes total but some are in use that you can't change and the flexibility isn't there to shift things around like you want. Similar experiences to...

PC Gaming = World of Suck

Don't all the games now need some sort of internet check? You have either the install check or the check on each load or save. GTA4 to even save games you had to be logged in to something, you could play but never save without the internet. FWIW I like steam remembering what I have and all I...

I would say that is a perfect candidate for the upgrade, you have your backup you can restore if anything isn't to your liking so why not give it a shot? Not really much to loose except an hour or three if you don't like what the upgrade did for you. Only thing is what is that upgrade disk...

Old advice for carburetor vehicles was if you are stopped longer than 5 minutes shut off the engine, but under 5 minutes if you shut it off you actually waste gas because of that choke. Pretty sure that doesn't apply to injected cars now. Hybrids would do really well in that situation, they...

I guess I didn't read far enough before posting, it is out now. As I read it if you have win7 in AHCI mode using MSFT's driver it will pass through the TRIM just fine.
