Another Digital Camera Thread - Point and Shoot

That linked to this site where there are a really decent list of comparison shots in different ISO modes. http://www.imaging-resource.com/IMCOMP/COMPS01.HTM The Canon PowerShot SX1 IS at 400 looks worse than a D5000 at 1600 so I see what you all are saying. I will think on it but I don't...

Another Digital Camera Thread - Point and Shoot

Yeah, obviously an improvement from my camera where ISO 400 isn't that hot but I was hoping that 800 would look better than these and these are supposedly the latest and greatest in this range. http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/CanonSX1IS/page7.asp

Another Digital Camera Thread - Point and Shoot

The category I am looking for is called (I believe) bridge cameras as in they fall between a full DSLR and point and shoot. Seems like an ISO 1600 is standard and 3200 and sometimes as high as 6400 can be had now. 28-320+mm zoom and usually a f2.8 through most of the wide modes categorize this...

Another Digital Camera Thread - Point and Shoot

Would like some suggestions. I want something that shoots better in low light situations than my current Sony DSC-H1. It is limited to a rather noisy ISO 400 but technology has moved on in recent years right? I now have a Sony DSC-H1 and before that I had a Canon S1-IS so basically what I...

SSDs - State of the Product?

Mine was the boot drive, were yours? I wouldn't doubt the OS doing something in the background would skew something. At any rate I didn't say it was a good or perfect system... I only rate a 6.5 overall because of the GTX260 holding things back in two categories.

Not sure on the cap issue, I just think they last longer but have no idea how much longer. Did stumble across this site recently though: http://www.badcaps.net/. Would you be interested in this extra stuff I have laying around? 2x: 10GB IDE 2.5" IBM Travelstar IC25N010ATDA04-0 A little on the small side but it is free + ship. I can even throw in the 2.5-3.5 adapter you need. I also have two 3.5" WD600LB-00DNA0 drives.

Building a home NAS - feedback on build

I guess that would come down to the motherboard you choose then. The only reason we were considering this in the first place was concern the ATOM might not really be up to the task of saturating gigabit transfers? Stepping up to AMD 5000+ or Celeron C2D is enough to eliminate that? I can't...

    Network routing problem

Doesn't the NIC's gateway show up in the routing table as 10.20.8.1? That's what I assumed that was. On the two pieces of software for sending traps that we have tried there is no gateway or mask configuration, just the destination IP. Yeah, I am really interested in those traceroutes too.

    Network routing problem

Yep, nothing out of ordinary. Whenever it sees the config file changed it reloads it and you can see that in the log along with the destinations that were configured. No failures listed. Customer is asking how to bind it to a specific network adapter and there is no such thing, windows handles...

    Network routing problem

I have this problem with a customer, they can only receive SNMP traps when the sending server has its second NIC disabled. Have tried two different software packages in sending SNMP traps, they both behave the same way. I am not really skilled enough to spot anything wrong in a routing table...

SSDs - State of the Product?

After living with this SSD for a few more days this was very much worth the money. Bloatware like word and outlook just snap open now. I wasn't expecting to be this pleased with it, also nice being completely silent. Oh and on the SSD my experience in win7 7100 went from a 5.9 with the raptor...

I like the suggested drive cage much better, you can stick the OS drive in there as well. On the case I am thinking maybe you want to consider something that has air filters on the intake air flow? I find even crappy filters like the ones on the P180 do quite a lot. maybe a case with a more...

    Supermicro RAID card

I think you can expect that from RAID-1 anywhere. Wouldn't have worked with RAID-5 though even assuming both controllers supported it. I was also pleased to confirm that when I broke my ICH9R RAID-1 array it didn't loose data either, despite the ton of warnings and confirmations that it would.

    Useful SATA utility for hotswapping

Yeah, I think I just need to experiment a bit with the intel storage manager. It has a rescan option to find new devices but I don't see a way to stop and remove a disk.

    Useful SATA utility for hotswapping

Thanks for mentioning AHCI, I surmise that is exactly why my stuff isn't working at the moment for any sort of hot plug ability as I have intel RAID turned on. Guess that takes over all ports instead of just the ones used for RAID disks.

    Supermicro RAID card

I also have experience that with 3Ware and Intel you can move arrays to different machines and even go up a revision in hardware without issue. It is a legit concern to be aware of though, but I think I would be more concerned that a failing controller would destroy/corrupt the data on the...

    Windows 7 nonsense

Hmm, now this is unconfirmed rumor-mill stuff but it makes sense in an odd sort of "legalistic" way. The upgrade license depends on what you are upgrading.
