    eBooks & eLibraries

I've read several ebooks using my PocketPC and Microsoft Reader. It's good on the PocketPC, which has a scroll wheel to flip pages. But most of that reading has been done in short stints (at lunch, on a plane, etc.) As far as sitting in my favorite chair at home with a hot cup of Earl Grey...

Looks great, Doug! And it is much faster. My load times from dialing up at work are much quicker. I noticed you are using AshNews. I've been using it for about two months on my site and like the ease of use, editing, etc.

I think the dancing bull is funny, mostly because I don't visualize it as something Tannin would pick for himself :) Which is sort of the whole point of this, eh?

Do you really want to impress your neighboors?

Your picture prompted me to do a search of the F-22 (Yes, I'm a bit bored). Interestingly, I found out about the YF-23, which was produced by a team from Northrop/McConnell Douglas, competing against the team from Lockheed, who produced, and eventually won the contract for the F-22. Here's a...

    D-Link DI-604 Experiences ?

No experience with the 604 but....704 has worked like a charm. I bought it from Clippy about a year ago, and it has been so easy to use. Support seems pretty good...I upgraded the firmware about a month ago and gained some decent new capabilites (eg. DMZ, VPN features). Very easy to...

Want to Remotely Control a Linux Box from WinXP Pro

Exactly where I'm at. I have learned much about Linux in a short period of time just by tinkering, researching, and experimenting. Heck, that's how I've learned everything I know about computers to this point. But you definitely must have the time to tinker with it, and tinkering isn't always...

Want to Remotely Control a Linux Box from WinXP Pro

Yeah, sometimes it's better to take a breather and come back when you have regained some patience again. I've done that with many a project. Usually I come back to it later, fix the problem immediately and say, "Why the heck was it so hard three days ago!"

Want to Remotely Control a Linux Box from WinXP Pro

I had to open up port 10000 on my router/firewall to get it to work. Can you get Webmin to run on your local machine? (either http://localhost:10000 or https://localhost:10000). Depending on how Webmin was configured at installaltion, you may have to type https://localhost:10000 to get it to run.

Want to Remotely Control a Linux Box from WinXP Pro

Webmin is really easy to install and use. I installed using the RPM for Mandrake, then pointed my browser to http://localhost:10000. It's got a detailed user interface that allows you to configure lots of Linux applications and processes (you can install applications remotely, reboot, kill...

This is indeed strange, Clocker. I've been running Samba on one of my machines for several months now, accessing it with XP on another machine. I did most of the configuration through Webmin. Yesterday I set up Samba to run on a dual-Pentium machine in console--took awhile to get it all...

Upgrading Linux is such a pain.

I agree, it's much easier to configure a computer with the advent of Windows. But Linux IS free (for the most part), and once you get used to the way things are done in Linux, it's not too bad. I'm sure that it was not as easy to configure/install programs back in the early phases of its...

Upgrading Linux is such a pain.

Try KDE System Guard (Under Applications-Monitoring on my Mandrake 8 system running KDE 3). It shows all of your running processes, memory %, and allows you to kill processes (very similar to Windows). I totally agree--upgrading/tweaking is not for the faint at heart, nor the average user...

    Which Linux Disto (yet again)

I am definitely a Mandrake fan. It was fairly easy to configure, and runs very smoothly on my PIII-800. I am running Lycoris on another machine, which is supposed to be more like windows, but I wouldn't recommend it as a customer solution as it seems to be quite sluggish. I agree with both...

Nothing wrong with that, Mercutio. Everyone has their own tastes. I find Clancy interesting because I like political thrillers and the technical detail that he goes into. I know plenty of friends who just can't get into it, and get bored with all of the detail. OTOH, I dislike Charles...
