Had a friend who recently bought a house and decided to ditch cable television. He set up a an antenna to get OTA channels, and uses an iTV and HTPC to download a lot of stuff that he wants to see.

Are you in AT&T territory? If U-verse is available in your area, that seems to get Comcast to straighten up a little. They still suck, but at least they pay you a little attention.

I've been using a pretty cheap adapter on DVD drive for some years, and, except for Windows complaining that it can't read discs' tables of contents, it's been perfect.

They just seem so unresponsive compared to the Hitachi drives that they replaced. They're in a NAS. Response time is mostly what I need out of them.

Obviously, I made the mistake of actually reading your response. More of the "udaman can't read, but loves to see his own typing." I can reasonably tune a computer CRT by eye with a free utility. Can't do that with an LCD. Game over.

CRTs have better colour rendition. It's difficult to even tune an LCD.

I bought this to evaluate. The performance is fine, but the noise is a lot more than my little 2.5" 10k drives. So, without customer in sight, I don't care to keep it for personal use. It's been sitting in a drawer for a while, so it's now down a couple months on its five-year warranty...

It doesn't have any effect on coordinating meetings. It's only a problem if you want to privately invite people to the meeting. If people want to meet up, they can just announce whereabouts and when they'll be, and folks can either pipe up or not.
