Tony, The Contax Tvs digital is well built, but a bit long in the tooth. I hope that it will be replaced by a more modern version with a wider lens (around 28-70mm equivalent).

    Open RAW format advocacy.

Stereodude, Perhaps you should buy some faster CF cards. The write time would be about 6 seconds for 8-bit images or 12 seconds for 12-bit images. Since Pradeep is shooting tethered, a TIFF file option would be nice. I use the 1Ds MK II in the field and have plenty of time to convert files...

    Digital Camera

The A95 is a popular camera that I have recommended to a couple of people that don't need the compactness of the S series and prefer an optical viewfinder over the annoying electronic ones in most digital cameras. It uses standard (inexpensive) CF cards and AA NiMH cells, which is also nice...

ED is a nomenclature for Nikon lens elements that exhibit very low dispersion (reduced lateral chromatic aberration). Some other brands use the terms APO (apochromatic), LD, SLD, etc. to describe the same characteristics. (Canon includes this under "L".)

Can you be more specific in your needs and give an idea of the subject matter? If a lot of cropping is necessary then a >10 megapixel body is best, but a nice system may be out of your price range.

    It's Star Wars day!

There have been 5 already? I saw the first one in high school and it looked kinda cheap in parts, but was at least interesting. Remember those stupid flashlights sold at the time? I suppose they are collectibles now.

    DVR Drive Upgrade?

I recently purchased a Toshiba RD-XS34. Is it possible to replace the hard drive with a larger IDE drive, or is there some funky firmware or hardware that would prevent it? (The device has a 160GB drive so LBA limits are not an issue.) Thanks.

    Memory card for digital camera

Gary, I think you are confused. The Ultra II and Extreme cards are essentially end of life. The Extreme III is 120/133x and has replaced both the previous lines. Unfortunately it is hard to find a reader capable of 20 MB/sec.

    Memory card for digital camera

SanDisk Ultra II or the newer Extreme III are your best bet. Lexar CF cards are notorious for poor performance compared to rated speed and strange behavior/incompatibility with Canon bodies. I sold all my Lexar cards and will not buy one again. 1GB is the minimum decent size for an 8...

    Ghost

Well, I have Ghost 2002 but was wondering if 2003 or 2004 was the last good version. Of course it is possible to boot from USB if the BIOS supports it. :)

    Ghost

I know that Symantec purchased PowerQuest a couple of years ago and read that the current Ghost is a rehash of the dreaded Drive Image 7 (I have) with its Windows PE BS recovery. Which is the last version of Ghost that runs from removable media such as flash? Thanks.

    External Firewire Drive Disappears

There was a long thread at SR last year about the crappy Prolific chipset. The weird thing is that I purchased a couple of the same enclosures, but they were equipped with Oxford 911s for some reason.

NEWZ: Seagate Releases 120GB & 100GB 2½ Inch Notebook Dr

I'd be happy enough with a 120GB 5400 RPM drive, but the majority of users will probably desire the 100GB 7200 RPM drive. I don't expect much improvement from the current 100GB 5400 RPM drive, but the extra 20 GB will be appreciated. The 1Ds MK II's RAW files fill CF cards and hard drives at...

    ATTO SATA Test

IIRC the WD360 is a much older drive, so 59 MB/sec. sounds about right. Did you sheck the SR database? My 400GB 7200.8 drives have a sustained read transfer rate of 70MB sec. max. Perhaps yours has lower density platters.
