There are no diagnostic tools, just some scary software that tries to install itself when the drive is connected. :(

I bought a second WD 250GB passport, but it vibrates quite a bit. :( Should I attempt to exchange the drive, given that technically it functions correctly?

Thanks, but ordering online usually costs more overall in time and effort, due to the delivery process. I obtained one of the drives at the Best Buy. Unfortunately there is no case, not even a cheapie sleeve for a $200 drive. :( At least I am happy to report that the Western drive operates...

I've been using a couple of the 750GB drives since they wer first introduced and one runs almost continuously. It was retail packed drive, not an OEM one that the Newegg employees may have played football with and then packed in a layer of bubble wrap. ;)

You should always use the RGB histogram to determine accurate exposure. LCD brightness in not meaningful, and blinking highlights are less than accurate. But yes, the D80 tends toward overexposure.

I'm not sure what software you are using, but I'd not bother to test speeds. I have the slowest, cheapest DSLR internet. At least it is reliable compared to the cable company that has mysterious outages at inopportune times, sometimes for several hours. :(

I am primarily a Canon user this century, but purchased a D80 last autumn. It is quite a nice body and you won't find appreciably better detail in a Nikon without going to the D2Xs, which has other advantages and limitations. As you know, the D40x is crippled in AF lens choices, so carefully...
