Vista How do I make it like XP?

Does that option even exist in a typical notebook BIOS? I was able to install XP in a notebook with an SATA drive, but it was a 2008 model notebook. The main problem is usually finding XP drivers for all the integrated components. Sometimes you have to hack the video drivers for example.

My link was posted without seeing your reply. Let's wait a few days - or maybe hours - for David to buy 6 for RAID. :D I really don't need one just now. I have the 500GB WD drive in the computer and 3x500GB Samsung drives in the PSDs. In addition there are 3x320GB and 4x250GB external 2.5"...

    Restoring System

There seems to be a multi-part conversion cycle. First the RAW file is read (low CPU), then some processing occurs that causes the CPU utilization to increase, but it is not 100%. In the next phase the CPU is at least briefly 100% on all four cores. (David may not be seeing that because...

    Restoring System

I have been there and done that. Throughput can be increased by about 1/3, but the two sets of files should be on different drives (or perhaps an SSD array :)). Overall it is not worthwhile unless one is processing many hundreds of files, and then the sets must be recombined.

    The Last Case

Thanks. That would probably work. However, I am now looking at 2TB drives as an option to increase capacity. The primary 1TB 7200.11 drives should be replaced sooner rather than later.

Mine looks like this. The utilization of CPU cores spike to nearly 100% for a brief time during each file conversion in a batch, but not the majority of the total time. Is something wrong?

    Seagate 7200.11 drives failing

That sucks. I have backup data on some affected drives that are offsite and not easily accessible. I still feel strongly that Seagate should write an easy-to-use Windos/Mac tool for the fix that includes USB/FW external drives as well. If you and others are having problems with the current...

In CS4, File, Save As... is still only single threaded, as are other major parts of PS. Unfortunately the main plug-ins I use are also single-threaded. There may be newer versions available, but they are probably not worth the cost. I've ramped the clock up to a higher level; it needs to run...

It is better now than yesterday. I replaced the heatsink/fan, updated the BIOS, and adjusted memory and CPU settings. (There are a multitude of settings in there, and a virus is not making the work easier.) I was hoping that the 4-core CPU would be rather better than the 2-core CPU in...

Eneloop Alternatives (or Cracking The Battery Lingo Codewords)

I have a couple each of the BC-900 and MAHA chargers. Frankly, the BC-900 does fine, especially at low to medium charge rates. The MH-C801D is good for charging 6-8 cells together and I use the MH-C204W for travel. Is the MH-C9000 worth getting if one has the others? I'd really prefer a 4AA...

I order from thomasdistributing.com. I have several MAHA chargers, Lacrosse BC-900, etc. Some are better for different purposes. Many people like the big 8-cell MAHA with the computerized display, I forgot the model number. Sometimes I use a small 4-cell AA only MAHA charger for travel.

I Thought This Was Illegal In The US

:) It is definitely against policy. It could be construed as illegal if the resources for package delivery are missappropriated. I think it is mainly driven by paranoia after 9-11. We even have to sign a ledger for packages delivered by the mailroom guys.

I Thought This Was Illegal In The US

I'm not planning to use PS CS4 any time soon if ever. If I understand correctly it can use a fancy video card to smooth the interpolated views (i.e., not 100%), which is exactly what I do not want. I quite prefer the aliased images @<100% and know well how they will appear in the output. I...

    Seagate 7200.11 drives failing

That's what I was afraid of. How does DOS see any controllers without drivers? It seems that one would have to pull the hard drives and attach them to some other, ancient computer. Then I have to find some ancient version of DOS and a USB memory device that supports FAT16? Seagate is lame.
