I recall that Tony debunked the hard drive "reliability" database. :)

Vista How do I make it like XP?

I meant specifically in the 2.5" size, where the speed and capacity are too limited. However, 3.5" IDE drives are also practically EOL and did not exceed 750GB. I last used an IDE (3.5") boot drive in 1999. I understand that you have different needs and a good way to put old drives to use...

Vista How do I make it like XP?

I wish I could find a "better" notebook, but those are probably too large. IDE drives are uselessly obsolete now.

SSDs - State of the Product?

Why would the OS be relevant? An SSD should work with all.

    Quiet and Rackmount?

I would suggest that you can fit a lot of cool, quiet 2TB WD drives into a smaller space, but you might not like me anymore. :)

    500 GB

I forgot to say that moments before seeing that the 500GB 7200.4 drive was deactivated, I had received notification that the drive was in stock. Now it has changed from deactivated to out of stock status. What are they smoking over at the Egg?

Nichia Develops 60 Lumen Per Watt White LED

Yuck, I'd not want to live under 6500K lights. :( To me 4000K is for living and 5000K is for (D50) working.

SSDs - State of the Product?

I saw that link elsewhere. I use the X25-E quite heavily, but I am not seeing any deterioration of that sort. I also don't know how accurate ATTO is for the prupose. My Intel SSD has two partitions. The boot partion is about 8GB and has been restored at least 50-75 times so far, and the data...

    Seagate 7200.11 drives failing

Oh crap, one of my 1TB -340AS drives started bricking late Friday. At some intervals, usually within minutes of powerup, the drive is clicking as if spinning up and down. The drive letter is inacccesible for some time until it recovers. :( Therefore I made a quick purchase of a replacement...

Nichia Develops 60 Lumen Per Watt White LED

Unfortunately most Chinese consumer products use the cheapest, crappiest circuits and components possible. I don't know the budget for street lights, but 200 years is rather unrealistic. In many areas the poles and infrastructure would not last that long, and I doubt that the circuits would...

36GB? That is the capacity of a SCSI drive.

Nichia Develops 60 Lumen Per Watt White LED

I agree. LEDs will have to be better than CF lamps, and that means soft light covering 360x270°, a wider range of color temp options than typical white LEDs, models covering the 500-2500 lumen range, and equal or better efficiency and cost, life, etc. I would avoid buying a lamp with fixed...

WD to launch 2TB drives, lose data

Why not multiple versions? Different markets have different feature needs and will pay accordingly. There are an extra couple of versions not really needed, but 7 is probably intended to replace the Vista versions, one for one.

SSDs - State of the Product?

They are probably expecting 4x X25-E drives to scale better. Don't you think that two drives would be better than one and scale (relatively) better than four?

    Michael Phelps suspended three months

Argue away that the laws should be changed in the future, but the point is that Phelps was using the drug illegally at that time. Considering that he was using the bonging device in the apparent setting, I doubt it was a first-time offense.

Exactly. Lifestyle changes can have an effect (often not as beneficial as medications), but are useless for acute conditions. All drugs produce AE's. Some are more severe and have higher prevalence than others. It is up to the patient to make the choice (informed consent) with physician...

    Fires in Victoria

Reading up??? I've seen them from the backyard at least three times. Smoke so thick it is hard to breathe, constant helicopters overhead, and deciding whether to leave or not. Malibu, Chatsworth, Topanga, Simi and others - they all suck. Friends and coworkers made homeless, etc.

Where is that reference? Is it worse in I/O or in transfer rate? I was hoping that maybe a couple of the X25-M drives would be close to a single X25-E.

    need an ATA DVD burner

The DVD±R drives hit the limit of USB speeds at about 15.5x, so there are only some buffer underruns for the last ~300MB of the disk. It is not a significant problem IMO.

No. It is an illusion. People that try to make themselves indispensible are the first people I would eliminate. It's better to spend some money/effort sooner to clean up their messes than deal with it later. That is why it is important to have good systems, SOPs and audits to keep...
