:pale: Historically I've only had problems in the first few uses, so I was hoping to weed out any early defects. I usually use a CF card 50-100 times after which it becomes completely obsolete. Maybe I should rethink the capacity.

The neighboring trees were drastically cut down. Now there is horrific afternoon sun in this workroom. Two computer systems are not helping either. It is ~5 °F warmer than elsewhere. :( I'm tired of summer already and it will be a long one.

It makes sense to me as being needed and less likely to wear anything out. I thought the memory was rated for tens of thousands of erase cycles.

Thanks. I did drive to the Microcenter and they had a bunch of OEM components in boxes, but not even bags. Many of them looked rather beaten up in shipping. :pirate: Of course I was not looking for a DVD writer at that time.

I tried four types of normal-layered discs and they are all 16-18x. 24x is BS. :smurf:

I downloaded but did not try to install that update to the other OS drive. My computer and hard drives (not to mention the optical) are just so whacked out now I can't stand it. :frowner:

I use Phostoshop for working on images and my brain for organization. I have a primitive computer with a bunch of local (SATA and eSATA) drives and 1:1 backups via file synch. I only do photography rarely now, ~15-25K per year, and don't need quick access for commercial purposes.

Are there any decent utilities that write to storage and read confirm multiple cycles for the purpose of stress testing? I need to be 100% sure of operational function and manual tests require too much of my time (effort). I'm not so concerned about duration.

I only noticed the slowdown a week or so ago.

I gave up on LR long ago for some of those reasons.

You mean 128GB? The 256GB drive is even faster.

Is the slower write speed the result of fewer flash chips/less channels or the marketing of a deliberately slower,cheaper drive?

My Windows Update for XP64 has not worked in years or maybe ever. Normally I don't care, but the IE 6 is causing problems with warnings on numerous web sites. Is there a manual update of Windows components somwhere? I thought there was a method in times gone by, but cannot find it now. :rant:

What floor were you on? It is no fun being in a serious quake when objects are hitting you in the head, glass is breaking all around, and water and power fails. I've suffered in three of them. :(

That is true if the image sizes are the same. I was assuming that the images sizes would shrink somewhat, especially on the icons.

Those tiny pixels are for young eyeballs. :) If I had tons of money and time to use it, I could see the appeal of the iPhone.

They were the locally obtained 30-pack of 8x, but I trashed the the wrapper. Maybe the old Optriarc is not so good?
